About the job
The Visualization team is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test to join a group of talented engineers responsible for delivering data exploration, visualization, and reporting capabilities within the SAS Viya platform. In this role, you will work closely with software developers, designers, product managers, and fellow testers to help ensure the quality, reliability, usability, and accessibility of our web-based applications.
As a member of the team, you will contribute to the design, development, and execution of automated and manual testing solutions, advocate for quality throughout the software development lifecycle, and help deliver a seamless experience for our customers. You will play a key role in validating new features, investigating issues, improving test coverage, and supporting continuous improvements that enhance product stability, performance, and overall quality.
As a SDET, you will:
- Create and maintain a high quality of test automation using modern development techniques and provides key data points to support metrics-based decision making.
- Apply automated tests at every layer of the application stack, both inside and outside of the continuous delivery pipeline.
- Produce and analyze metrics that illustrate the quality of applications and develop insight that drives the direction of quality engineering.
- Work with the team to promptly triage test failures with precision and accuracy, maintaining the health of the build pipeline.
- Work collaboratively with development, product, operations, and support peers to encourage quality, as a key design element in all work efforts.
- Engage in code reviews for product, test, and infrastructure code.
- Understand the role of deployment, migration, security, and performance in the continuous delivery lifecycle.
- Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.

Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience writing software applications, testing software, and/or general programming
- Fluent in state-of-the-art techniques, standards, and procedures for software test development
- Demonstrated ability to distinguish between testing layers, match the correct approach to each situation, and design effective quality gates based on these layers.
- Expert in one test automation framework demonstrating the ability to create shareable code.
- Proficient with source control management techniques including branching, code review, and merging.
- Proficiency building and maintaining CI/CD solutions
- Familiarity with CI/CD infrastructure, platform configuration, integration, and secret management.
- Ability to pivot quickly and seamlessly toward areas of need
- Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

- Communication: Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Technology Savvy: Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices, applying this knowledge to strengthen our platforms
- Collaboration: Ability to work independently as part of a team while mentoring younger team members
- Experience with GitHub Actions
- Experience with Generative AI technologies
