In this role, you will supervise, manage, and implement programs designed to provide protective, preventative, and support services to children, parents, and foster families utilizing the Family Centered Case Management Model and P.R.I.D.E. Model of Practice.\nAssistant Supervisors within Child & Family Programs:\nCoach, mentor, and train staff as the expert and role model on your team.\nDemonstrate leadership exemplified by respect and empowerment, in order to encourage employees to achieve success.\nProvide leadership, guidance, and support to staff in the absence of the supervisor, concerning placements of children and supporting caregivers with children in care.\nAssist with service delivery between Child and Family division programs, work units, and partner agencies.\nBe knowledgeable about Ministry policies and procedures, as outlined in the Child and Family Services Act, Family/Children’s Services, and PRIDE Manuals.\nAct as a liaison with First Nations CFS and community agencies, with service delivery and decisions.\nYou may represent your unit, Ministry, or region on community or internal committees\n\nWhile the representation of Indigenous staff with the Ministry of Social Services has been prioritized, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Only those selected for further assessment will be contacted.\nThis competition will be used to create an eligibility list that will be valid for up to 6 months and will be used to staff current and future opportunities.\nInvestigate allegations of neglect, physical abuse, or sexual abuse, assess family functioning, determine risk factors to child safety, and implement intervention plans and support services as required.\nInitiate Family Court proceedings when necessary and guide families through all steps of the process.\nManage the needs of children admitted to the care of the Ministry, including placement in foster or alternate resources, and coordinate assessment and treatment planning to address health, social, psychological and educational needs in preparation for returning home.\nPlan for children requiring long-term care, often in cooperation with First Nation Child and Family Service agencies.\nDevelop and maintain open, honest working relationships and encourage teamwork with clients, foster families, biological families, collateral agencies, and colleagues within the unit and community.\nScreen, identify, and prioritize referrals for service, develop appropriate intervention plans, consult with professionals as needed, and complete documentation in accordance with professional practice standards.\nDemonstrate strong risk-assessment, judgment, and decision-making skills, and implement stringent protocols for the transfer of files and information to Child Protection or other Child and Family Service workers and supervisors.\nApply knowledge of multicultural beliefs and values, with particular emphasis on First Nations and Métis perspectives.\nApply understanding of poverty, systemic barriers, and socio-economic issues and their impact on individuals and families.\nAdvocate on behalf of clients to ensure access to services and resources, remove barriers to independence, and promote overall well-being.\nJob Capabilities:\nAs a public servant, we are seeking someone who:\nIs accountable, takes ownership of their work by contributing to organizational outcomes and demonstrates the corporate values in our Commitment to Excellence.\nIs innovative and seeks out ways for improvement by thinking creatively, identifying new ideas and taking responsible risks.\nWorks collaboratively with others to understand, engage and have meaningful dialogue to achieve work outcomes.\nIs inclusive, identifies and is aware of personal bias, and readily seeks out and appreciates diverse perspectives.\nIs adaptable, continuously learns from experience and applies those learnings to new situations.\nFocuses on achieving public service excellence. \nTechnical Knowledge and Skills:\nTo qualify for this position, you will possess a Bachelor of Social Work or Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work degree from an accredited university, as approved by the SASW/CASW or CASWE. The successful candidate will have several years of experience in Child Protection/Children's Services - within Child and Family Programs, have knowledge of Structured Decision Making (SDM) and have experience supervising professional staff. The successful candidate will be required to travel, work flexible hours in the evening and on weekends, and transport children (and parents) in service delivery.
