Reporting to the Manager, Forestry and Horticulture, this position provides leadership and oversight of urban forestry operations including general tree maintenance, tree canopy planning, hazard tree management, and integrated pest management (IPM) programs.\nThe Supervisor is responsible for leading staff, managing contractors, ensuring regulatory and safety compliance, and delivering sustainable urban forestry programs across PCC-managed lands. This role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to balance operational priorities, environmental stewardship, and public expectations.\nAs a key member of the leadership team, you will contribute to strategic planning, program development, and service delivery while fostering a collaborative, safe, and high-performance work environment.\n Urban Forestry Planning and Program Delivery\nLead long-term planning and sustainability of the urban canopy, including renewal, maintenance, and protection strategies.\nDevelop, implement, and evaluate forestry and integrated pest management programs and policies.\nManage and maintain tree inventory systems (ArcGIS) to support planning and decision-making.\nProvide strategic leadership to staff responsible for urban forestry programs.\nOperations and Supervision\nSupervise and support field staff, ensuring work aligns with divisional priorities and strategic objectives.\nMonitor operational performance to ensure quality, efficiency, and productivity standards are met.\nLead scheduling, performance management, coaching, and conflict resolution.\nSupport recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of staff.\nSafety and Compliance\nPromote and maintain a strong safety culture aligned with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.\nLead safety programs, including training, incident investigations, and corrective actions.\nAct as Return-to-Work Coordinator and oversee health, safety, and wellness practices.\nEnsure compliance with pest management regulations, environmental standards, and safe work procedures.\nIntegrated Pest Management (IPM)\nOversee planning and delivery of integrated pest management strategies to protect plant health and biodiversity.\nMonitor pest activity, assess risks, and implement mitigation strategies using environmentally responsible practices.\nEnsure proper application of pesticides in accordance with legislation and best practices.\nContractor and Stakeholder Management\nReview pre-construction and tree protection plans and participate in site meetings.\nMonitor contractor performance and compliance with environmental and contractual standards.\nLiaise with ministries, agencies, contractors, stakeholders, and the public.\nPublic Engagement\nServe as a technical expert in urban forestry and IPM.\nRespond to public inquiries, complaints, and service requests.\nRepresent PCC through media, tours, and educational outreach.\nHazard Tree and Emergency Response\nConduct hazard tree assessments (ISA TRAQ standard) and maintain records.\nProvide 24-hour on-call response for high-risk tree situations and emergencies.\nResource and Equipment Management\nManage budgets, procurement, and financial resources, including business cases and tenders.\nOversee fleet, equipment, and tool inventory, lifecycle planning, and maintenance.\nEnsure effective use of organizational resources.\n Job Capabilities:\nIn this leadership and supervisory role, we are seeking someone who:\nHolds themselves and others accountable for delivering on work expectations.\n\nDemonstrates innovation and supports their team to identify, iterate, and implement new solutions.\n\nBrings people together in a collaborative manner and builds relationships that deliver desired outcomes.\n\nIs inclusive, promotes, supports, and enables belonging, encourages diversity, and values all contributions.\n\nIs adaptable, anticipates the impact of change, models agility, and supports their team through ambiguity.\n\nIs outcomes-focused, enables their team to meet or exceed established goals, and balances longer term objectives with tactical execution.\n\nTechnical Knowledge and Skills:\nTypically, the knowledge required for this position is obtained through the completion of a -
