Learn more.\nPurpose of Job\nReporting to the Discipline Engineering Lead, the Instrumentation Engineer provides subject matter expertise supporting Discipline Engineering and Project Delivery across the Americas. The role spans ongoing operations, capital projects, and turnaround activities with a primary focus on instrumentation engineering and is expected to own technical changes in the facility within all aspects of instrumentation and controls.\nKey Accountabilities\nForensic / RCA\nInvestigate instrumentation failures, control loop anomalies, and instrumented system deficiencies and develop corrective action recommendations\nRoot cause analysis of instrumentation failures during startup, shutdown, or abnormal operations\nInstrumentation Design / Engineering of Record\nSize and specify instrumentation for flow, pressure, level, temperature, and analytical applications per applicable standards\nDevelop and review instrument datasheets, specifications, and installation details\nReview and approve vendor data sheets and fabrication packages for instrumentation and control equipment\nServe as engineer of record for on-site instrumentation engineering and design\nControl Systems\nSupport design, configuration, and modification of DCS systems including I/O architecture and wiring - with preference for Emerson DeltaV and ABB platforms\nSupport PLC design and programming review including ladder logic and function block diagrams - with preference for Allen Bradley\nDefine instrumentation and controls integration requirements for capital projects and facility modifications\nSafety Instrumented Systems (SIS)\nSupport SIS design activities in compliance with IEC 61511 and ISA 84\nParticipate in SIL assessments and safety requirement specification (SRS) development\nPSM / Regulatory\nParticipate in or lead PHA/HAZOP reviews for instrumented systems and control loops\nEnsure compliance with ISA, IEC, NEC, and API standards; support the waiver process when necessary\nManage instrumentation documentation register ensuring as-built accuracy after MOC or TAR activity\nCapital Projects / FEL\nDefine the instrumentation and controls basis of design during FEL for new or modified units\nReview P&IDs for instrumentation completeness, consistency, and code compliance\nServe as instrumentation discipline lead during FEED and detailed design phases\nTAR-Specific\nCoordinate pre-TAR instrumentation scope including device calibration, inspection, testing, and return-to-service verification\nEvaluate instrumentation condition reports and disposition findings\nStandards / Continuous Improvement\nDevelop or revise company instrumentation engineering standards and specifications\nConduct gap assessments against ISA, IEC, and API code updates and lessons learned\nFormal Education\n Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.\nProfessional Engineering License preferred.\nWorking Experience\nExperience performing detailed engineering and design for PSM regulated petrochemical or refining industries.\n8+ years relevant experience required.\nRequired Personal/Professional Skills\nStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams, including engineering, design, maintenance, operations, and management at all levels.\nWillingness and ability to hold technical positions confidently, constructively challenge decisions, and influence outcomes at all levels of the organization - including senior and executive leadership - with a humble, team-oriented approach.\nCapable of taking initiative on technical tasks and driving them forward independently, while knowing when to engage broader stakeholders for alignment and support.\nUnderstanding of instrumentation engineering and construction activities in both capital project execution and operating facility support environments.\nKnowledge of instrumentation design methods, best practices, and techniques for engineering and constructing petrochemical facilities.\nKnowledge of DCS systems including I/O interface requirements and wiring; Emerson DeltaV and ABB experience preferred.\nKnowledge of PLC systems including ladder logic and function block programming; Allen Bradley experience preferred.\nWorking knowledge of Safety Instrumented System design principles and IEC 61511/ISA 84 requirements; willingness to develop deeper proficiency as needed.\nKnowledge of stage gate project development and execution processes.\nFamiliarity with SAP or a similar enterprise system.\nSasol (USA) Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer and gives consideration for employment to qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, creed, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, national origin, disability or protected veteran status, as well as any other characteristic protected by applicable law, regulation or local ordinance.
