Our manufacturing roles build the equipment that protects the critical infrastructure of the power grid, and each of our team members lends their unique skills to this crucial mission. We empower our people by providing pathways to a long-term career and support them in their professional growth by sustaining a culture founded on respect, strengthened by collaboration, and measured by our shared successes. The manufacturing industry is booming with opportunities to learn new things, expand your skills, and build a long-term career.\nJoin S&C to make an impact on tomorrow’s energy challenges and become an employee-owner!\nAvailable Shift:\n1st shift: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday\nFull-Time Summer 2027 Internship\nAt S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated per hourly range for this position is $22 - 30 per hour based on experience.\nCompetitive Weekly Pay Period\nAs an Electronics Engineering Intern, you'll work alongside experienced engineers on the power and control hardware behind S&C's automation, protection, and switching products, including the 6800 Controls platform and IntelliRupter. This is a hands-on, closely mentored internship built for a student who is still learning the profession. You'll be an entry-level contributor on a project or work team, supporting real hardware projects under the guidance of a design engineer while you build practical skills in circuit design, lab work, and testing. Work is closely supervised, the problems you'll tackle are meaningful but not complex, and the goal is your own growth and development as much as the work you deliver.\nThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:\nSupport Electronics Design\nAssist engineers with schematic capture, component selection, and design documentation for analog, digital, and power circuits used in utility control products. Help maintain bills of materials and design files, and learn how a printed circuit board goes from concept to prototype.\n\nHands-On Lab and Testing\nBuild, bring up, and test prototype boards in the lab under supervision. Take measurements with oscilloscopes, probes, power supplies, and electronic loads, and learn structured troubleshooting by working through issues with your mentor. Record results clearly so others can reproduce them.\n\nData, Analysis, and Documentation\nOrganize and analyze test data, create simple charts and summaries, and help document findings in test reports and design notes. Apply basic engineering analysis to help the team make design decisions.\n\nLearn and Contribute to the Team\nParticipate in design reviews, staff meetings, and team discussions. Ask thoughtful questions, share what you learn, and communicate your progress and any obstacles to your mentor and the team. Complete a summer project and present your results to the group at the end of the internship.\n\nCompliance\nUnderstand and comply with all applicable Company policies, safety rules, and lab practices.\n\nTo select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:\nIn-progress degree program from an accredited university/college program with a concentration inElectrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field, having completed at least the sophomore year by summer 2027.\n\nCoursework in circuit analysis, electronics, or digital systems, with a working understanding of basic electrical engineering fundamentals.\n\nSome hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies, from coursework, projects, or clubs.\n\nFamiliarity with at least one analysis or programming tool such as Python, MATLAB, or a SPICE-based circuit simulator.\n\nGood problem-solving instincts and a willingness to investigate the underlying cause of an issue rather than just the symptom.\n\nGood communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) and comfort asking questions and sharing information with the team.\n\nEagerness to learn, take direction and feedback, and take ownership of your own development.\n\nAbility to work onsite in Chicago for the summer and to work well in a collaborative, fast-paced team environment.\n\nComfort with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.\n\nAny of the following will be viewed favorably, but is not a requirement:\nPersonal, club, or capstone projects involving circuit design, PCB layout, embedded systems, or robotics.\n\nExposure to power electronics topics such as power supplies, batteries, or motor drives.\n\nExperience with an ECAD tool such as OrCAD, KiCad, Altium, or an equivalent.\n\nCoursework or interest in power systems, protection and control, or the electric utility industry.\n\nFamiliarity with microcontrollers, FPGAs, or common board-level interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART).\n\nPrior internship, co-op, or lab assistant experience in an engineering setting.\n\nMAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS\nStanding: Occasional standing on shop floor.\n\nLifting: Occasional lifting of production parts and tooling less than 50 pounds.\n\nWalking: Frequent walking throughout the facility both indoors and outdoors.\n\nCarrying: Occasional carrying of light objects.\n\nPushing: Infrequent pushing of objects.\n\nPulling: Infrequent pulling of objects.\n\nBending: Occasional bending.\n\nReaching: Infrequent reaching.\n\nHandling: Occasional handling of parts or tools.\n\nOther: Frequent use of personal computer, keyboard, monitor.\n\nReady to make an impact and become an employee-owner?
