The estimated per hourly range for this position is $22 - 30 per hour based on experience.\nCompetitive Weekly Pay Period\nThis position is for a summer intern in the Power Systems Control team. Our team works on advanced engineering projects such as commercial and industrial facilities, renewable energy sites, microgrid systems, distribution automation systems, and standalone islanded systems. Work within the team includes developing drawings, preparing specifications, electrical system design, power system controls design and programming, factory acceptance testing, and on-site system commissioning. The intern will be responsible for contributing to project engineering efforts and working closely with multiple team members to directly support project work. All delivered work will be supervised, but the position requires someone with a self-motivated work ethic and dedication to tackle complex problems. The intern will report to the Manager of Power Systems Control in the Engineering Solutions department and will be based in S&C’s Chicago, IL headquarters.\nThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:\nDevelop an understanding of how to read and interpret electrical design drawings, including one-line, three-line, communication, and wiring diagrams.\n\nCreate and update electrical design drawings in AutoCAD.\n\nWork closely with team members during Factory Acceptance Testing of S&C manufactured equipment, including assisting with developing the procedures and performing physical testing of the equipment.\n\nWork in the hardware lab to design and implement test environments for real-world applications, communicate with hardware such as protective relays, automation controllers, and microgrid control systems.\n\nDesign and develop communication libraries for the GridMasterMicrogrid Control System to interact with S&C manufactured equipment and third-party devices.\n\nDevelop an understanding of the lifecycle of power system control development, from initial design through final commissioning.\n\nDocument and communicate effectively to internal stakeholders including writing reports and delivering presentations.\n\nTo select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:\nIn-progress degree program from an accredited university/college program with a concentration in Electrical Engineering or a related field.\n\nExcellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.\n\nExcellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.\n\nFamiliarity with or interest in SCADA protocols such as Modbus and DNP3.\n\nFamiliarity with or interest in electrical power generation, distribution, and/or microgrids.\n\nFamiliarity with AutoCAD or other drawing programs is a plus.\n\nMAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS\nFrequently required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based work for extended periods during the workday.\n\nOccasionally required to walk moderate distances within an office or site environment.\n\nFrequently required to use hand-eye coordination to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, phone, and other office productivity equipment.\n\nOccasionally required to ascend or descend stairs within an office or site environment.\n\nFrequently required to observe details at close range when working with screens, reports, system consoles, and documentation.\n\nFrequently required to communicate in person, by phone, and through virtual collaboration tools.\n\nOccasionally required to travel for meetings, training, audits, project work, or site support as business needs require.\n\nReady to make an impact and become an employee-owner?
