Someone who is comfortable working with Linux, virtualisation, Kubernetes, and the networking concepts that connect these layers.\nThe role\nAs a Linux / Kubernetes Engineer, you will design, build, operate, and improve platforms that support mission-critical customer environments.\nYou will work across the infrastructure stack, from Linux and virtualisation through to Kubernetes. Rather than simply consuming an existing managed Kubernetes service, you understand the underlying infrastructure and are comfortable investigating problems across multiple layers of the platform.\nYour experience does not need to match every technology in our stack. What matters more is that you have strong fundamentals in Linux, virtualisation, and Kubernetes and can apply that knowledge to different infrastructure environments.\nAt Schuberg Philis, engineers work directly with customers and take ownership of the environments they are responsible for. We therefore look for someone who is comfortable speaking up, challenging technical decisions, involving stakeholders, and taking the initiative when something needs to move forward.\nWhat you will do\nYour responsibilities may vary depending on the customer environment, but typically include:\nDesign, build, operate, and improve Kubernetes-based infrastructure and platforms.\nWork extensively with Linux and open-source technologies.\nBuild and maintain infrastructure across virtualised and Kubernetes environments.\nWork with technologies such as Rancher, Harvester, VMware, and related infrastructure platforms.\nTroubleshoot complex issues across Linux, virtualisation, Kubernetes, and networking.\nImprove the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of infrastructure platforms.\nContribute to infrastructure automation and self-service capabilities for development teams.\nCollaborate with network engineers and other infrastructure specialists on platform connectivity and architecture.\nWork directly with customer stakeholders to understand technical challenges and translate them into practical solutions.\nTake ownership of technical problems instead of waiting for someone else to drive them.\nChallenge existing solutions and requirements where you see opportunities to improve them.\nShare your knowledge and help strengthen Kubernetes and open-source engineering capabilities across Schuberg Philis.\nWhat you bring\nWe are looking for an engineer who understands Kubernetes as part of a wider infrastructure landscape, rather than Kubernetes as an isolated technology.\nYou are comfortable moving between the operating system, virtualisation layer, Kubernetes platform, and networking when investigating or designing infrastructure.\nYou likely bring:\nStrong hands-on experience with Linux and open-source infrastructure.\nStrong practical knowledge of Kubernetes.\nExperience building, operating, or troubleshooting Kubernetes environments rather than only consuming managed Kubernetes services.\nSolid knowledge of virtualisation technologies and concepts.\nA good understanding of infrastructure and networking fundamentals.\nExperience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues across multiple technology layers.\nAn automation mindset and the desire to remove repetitive manual work wherever possible.\nA strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently.\nThe confidence to challenge technical decisions constructively.\nThe ability to work directly with customers and translate technical complexity into understandable choices.\nA collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge with engineers from different disciplines.\nExcellent communication skills in English.\nNice to have\nRancher and virtualisation experience.\nInfrastructure automation.\nHybrid/cloud experience.\nWhy this role?\nThis is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys understanding infrastructure all the way down the stack.\nWhile many Kubernetes roles today primarily revolve around managed cloud services, this position gives you the opportunity to work much closer to the underlying infrastructure.
