You will evaluate our existing build and deployment ecosystem, identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement, and engineer solutions that make software delivery faster, more reliable, more standardized, easier to troubleshoot, and safer for development teams.\nYou will work extensively with our Jenkins-based CI/CD platform, Groovy shared libraries, GitHub workflows, AWS environments, infrastructure as code, automated testing, code-quality tooling, and deployment automation. We are looking for someone who can do more than maintain pipelines-you should be able to understand how our current delivery process works, challenge what can be improved, and build reusable, maintainable solutions that move our CI/CD capabilities forward.\nYou should be comfortable developing across the entire software delivery lifecycle from code commit through build, test, artifact creation, deployment, validation, and rollback, while partnering closely with Software Engineering and QA teams.\nYou should also be a strong communicator who collaborates well in a distributed environment and is comfortable partnering across engineering, QA, SRE, security, support, and product teams. We value people who are practical, curious, accountable, and motivated by continuous improvement.\nOur environment includes AWS, Jenkins, Groovy, CloudFormation, ECS/Fargate, GitHub, Jira, SonarQube, Splunk, New Relic, Cortex.io, Slack, Snowflake, Databricks, and other modern engineering tools and platforms.\nLocation is flexible! This role can work from our St. John's, NL office on the water, or remotely within Alberta, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, or Ontario. Candidates must already be residing in Canada. No visa sponsorship is available.\nWhat Your Day Will Look Like\nDevOps, CI/CD and Developer Enablement\nDesign, develop, and improve Jenkins shared libraries, Jenkins files, and CI/CD pipelines using Groovy\nAssess and optimize build, test, release, and deployment workflows for speed, reliability, scalability, and developer experience\nCreate reusable pipeline components and standardized delivery patterns that reduce duplication, manual effort, and operational risk\nDevelop and apply software engineering practices including source control, code review, automated testing, documentation, and maintainabilitywhen developing CI/CD tooling, automation, shared libraries, and reusable components\nImprove build performance through better pipeline architecture, parallelization, caching, dependency management, and artifact management\nStrengthen deployments through automated testing, quality gates, validation, health checks, environment promotion, and rollback capabilities\nPartner with development and QA teams to improve how applications are built, tested, packaged, versioned, and deployed\nModernize CI/CD practices and use delivery metrics to identify bottlenecks and measure improvement\nLead technical improvements that modernize engineering tools and practices, reduce manual effort and operational risk, and improve developer productivity and deployment confidence\nSupport Carnegie Learning's evolution toward platform engineering and developer self-service, leveraging Cortex.io to improve service ownership, standards, and engineering insights\nDevOps and Cloud Engineering\nBuild and manage secure, scalable AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, primarily CloudFormation\nSupport containerized application deployments using Docker and AWS ECS/Fargate\nDevelop code, scripts, tools, APIs, and reusable components that automate engineering and operational workflows\nTroubleshoot complex issues across application code, builds, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, networking, and configuration\nIdentify root causes and implement sustainable solutions rather than short-term workarounds\nModernize legacy tooling and processes where it improves software delivery, reliability, or developer productivity\nDeployment and Operational Readiness\nUse Splunk, New Relic, and AWS CloudWatch to validate deployments and troubleshoot application, infrastructure, and pipeline issues\nImprove deployment monitoring, alerting, rollback, and post-deployment validation\nParticipate in incident response and root cause analysis when build, release, deployment, or infrastructure issues contribute to production problems\nSupport production reliability through performance monitoring, capacity awareness, and improvements related to software delivery and infrastructure\nTurn recurring delivery and operational issues into automated, corrective, or preventative improvements\nCollaboration and Ownership\nLead CI/CD and DevOps improvements across engineering teams\nPartner closely with Software Engineering, QA, SRE, Security, and Architecture\nProvide technical guidance, share knowledge, and help teams adopt effective CI/CD, DevOps, cloud, and software delivery practices\nInfluence technical decisions and engineering standards across teams through practical recommendations, reusable patterns, and hands-on implementation\nEstablish clear standards, documentation, reusable examples, and operational runbooks\nTake ownership of complex technical problems from investigation through implementation and validation\nContribute to a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus\nOn-call on a monthly rotating basis; after-hours work is limited but occasionally required.\nWhat Should Be In Your Bookbag\nYou bring 7+ years of experience in DevOps, CI/CD engineering, software engineering, platform engineering, or cloud engineering, along with strong communication skills and the ability to independently solve complex technical problems.\nMust be highly experienced in:\nJenkins, Groovy, and CI/CD engineering- including Jenkins files, shared libraries, reusable pipeline components, build agents, and pipeline troubleshooting\nSoftware delivery engineering- including build systems, automated testing, artifact management, versioning, deployment, validation, rollback, and improving delivery speed and reliability\nNeeds solid experience in:\nAWS and Infrastructure as Code- particularly CloudFormation or Terraform\nContainers and cloud-native deployments- including Docker and platforms such as AWS ECS/Fargate\nGit/GitHub and troubleshootingacross application code, builds, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, networking, configuration, and deployment environments\nHelpful or preferred:\nExperience with observability and deployment-validation platforms, GitHub Actions, code-quality and DevSecOps tooling, platform engineering/developer self-service, DORA or engineering productivity metrics, and database troubleshooting\nWhat Gives Us Purpose\nOthers teach what;
