Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of professional experience in Utility Design.\nWhat you’ll do:\nAssist Project Manager with engineering work.\nDevelopment of utility design plan sets for a variety of transportation and municipal projects in accordance with the required formats set forth by NCDOT or the municipality.\nPrepare Utility Construction Special Provisions / Specifications in accordance with NCDOT / municipal utility owner requirements.\nPrepare cost/quantity estimates for projects at various stages of design.\nPrepare and submit Permit Packages to various state agencies or self-permitting municipalities.\nSome travel will be required within NC to client meetings and project sites, and potentially to other W&S office locations and industry conferences / seminarsoutside of NC.\nPerform on-site field work. This may include: walking the project site / corridor to verify the existing conditions of utilities; observation of contractors and sub-consultants during construction; verify the as-built conditions of facilities.\nPrepare legible, concise, scaled notes and drawings.\nRepresent and promote Weston & Sampson at project meetings, conferences, and professional society events. \nAbility to work independently with minimal direction and interact with Client and Utility Owner Points of Contact in order to manage the work assigned to you.\nWhat you will bring:\nBS in Civil or Mechanical Engineering is required.\nMS in Civil Engineering is desired.\nProfessional Engineer License in NC, or the ability to obtainone as part of your career development.\nProficiency in MicroStation V8i or Open Roads is required in order to develop plan sets, cut profiles using dtm and tin files, create proposed surfaces from roadway cross sections.\nAutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus, but not required.\nCompetent in the use of Microsoft office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.\nAbility to learn how to use Microsoft Projects for scheduling of projects.\nProficient background with the design of Water Lines/Mains,Sanitary Pump Stations, Force Mains, and Gravity Sewers.\nExperience with hydrologic/ hydraulic modeling softwarefor analyzing water distribution systems\nSite Design experience to develop Site and Grading Plans for proposed Station Sites.\nExperience in the use of NCDOT Engineering Design Standards is preferred.\nAbility to read DOT plans in order to differentiate between existing and proposed conditions.\nAbility to perform a Utility Conflict Analysis between proposed roadway / hydraulic designs and the existing utilities on a project corridor to determine conflict points.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills and organization and time management skills.\nValid drivers license.\nOverview\nWeston & Sampson is an 100% employee-owned, full-service environmental and infrastructure consulting firm made up of more than 800 professionals, who work together to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for our clients.
