The Director will drive engineering excellence across iOS and Android platforms, establish scalable engineering practices, and ensure mobile applications are secure, resilient, performant and positioned to evolve with emerging technologies and customer expectations.\nThis role will be reporting to a Senior Director in Wealth Technology. Knowledge of the Wealth Management industry, digital financial services and emerging trends in mobile technology is an asset.\nIs this role right for you? In this role you will:\nOwn the Mobile Engineering strategy and technology roadmapacross Wealth Technology, covering iOS and Android applications and supporting mobile engineering capabilities.\n\nLead the architecture and technical evolution of mobile applications, working closely with Architecture, Product and Engineering teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable and aligned with enterprise technology standards.\n\nProvide thought leadership on modern mobile technologies and engineering practices, evaluating new frameworks, SDKs, platform capabilities and development approaches against business needs and enterprise standards.\n\nEstablish and continuously improve mobile engineering standards and guardrailscovering application architecture, reusable components, coding practices, performance, accessibility, testing, security and maintainability.\n\nDrive the modernisation of mobile platforms, reducing technical debt and legacy dependencies while evolving applications towards contemporary native mobile architectures and engineering practices.\n\nBuild strong engineering capabilities across native iOS and Android development, including Swift/SwiftUI and Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, while ensuring effective integration with APIs and backend-for-frontend (BFF) services.\n\nChampion engineering excellence and developer productivitythrough automation, reusable capabilities, effective development tooling, code quality practices and continuous improvement.\n\nDrive mature CI/CD and mobile release engineering practices, enabling reliable build, testing, security scanning and deployment processes across mobile applications.\n\nEnsure security is embedded throughout the mobile software development lifecycle, working closely with Cybersecurity and Application Security teams to proactively identify and remediate vulnerabilities and manage technology currency.\n\nEstablish strong practices for mobile application reliability, performance and observability, using application and real-user telemetry to understand customer experience, application health and production performance.\n\nDrive comprehensive quality engineering and test automation, including unit, integration, functional, accessibility, performance and regression testing, to improve release confidence and reduce production defects.\n\nOwn the technology aspects of mobile production health, including incident response, problem management, vulnerability remediation, resiliency, technology currency and continuous improvement.\n\nPartner with Product, UX/Design, Digital and business stakeholders to translate customer and business objectives into sustainable mobile technology solutions.\n\nWork closely with API, BFF, platform and other engineering teams to ensure clear technical contracts, scalable integration patterns and effective end-to-end engineering.\n\nLead, develop and mentor engineering leaders and engineers, building a strong mobile engineering community and ensuring appropriate technical depth, succession planning and skills development.\n\nEstablish meaningful engineering health measures, including application stability, performance, automated test coverage, security and vulnerability posture, technical debt, technology currency and engineering productivity.\n\nManage strategic technology partners and vendors where required, ensuring their engineering practices, deliverables and technology choices meet enterprise expectations.\n\nEffectively communicate mobile engineering strategy, investment needs, technology risks, architectural decisions and delivery considerations to senior technology and business stakeholders.\n\nFoster a culture of engineering ownership, innovation, collaboration and continuous improvementacross mobile engineering teams.\n\nDo you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:\n10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience designing, developing and operating enterprise-scale mobile applications.\n\nStrong technical knowledge of native iOS and Android development, including Swift/SwiftUI and Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, and the mobile application development lifecycle.\n\nProven experience leading and developing engineering teams and engineering leadersin a large, complex technology organisation.\n\nStrong knowledge of mobile application architecture and design patterns, modular application design, API integration and backend-for-frontend architectures.\n\nExperience defining and implementing mobile engineering standards, reusable frameworks and technology roadmapsacross multiple teams or applications.\n\nStrong understanding of mobile security, including secure coding, authentication and authorisation, application security testing, vulnerability remediation and protection of customer information.\n\nExperience with modern CI/CD, DevSecOps and automated testing practicesfor iOS and Android applications.\n\nExperience with mobile application distribution and release processes across the Apple App Store and Google Play ecosystem.\n\nStrong understanding of mobile observability and application performance management, including crash monitoring, performance telemetry and real-user monitoring.\n\nExperience designing highly available and resilient digital applications and leading technology teams through production incidents and root-cause remediation.\n\nSolid understanding of cloud-native architectures and distributed systems, including integration between mobile applications, APIs, microservices and cloud platforms.\n\nExperience managing technology currency, SDK/framework upgrades and mobile operating-system changes, with an understanding of their impact on application compatibility, security and customer experience.\n\nStrong architectural judgement with the ability to balance customer experience, engineering quality, security, delivery speed, maintainability and cost.\n\nDemonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex engineering topics into clear technology and business decisions.\n\nExperience working in Agile product and engineering organisationswith multidisciplinary teams spanning Product, Design, Architecture, Engineering, Quality Engineering and Cybersecurity.\n\nNice to have\nExperience delivering digital solutions within Wealth Management, Brokerage, Banking or another highly regulated financial-services environment.\n\nExperience operating large-scale consumer mobile applications with significant customer and transaction volumes.\n\nKnowledge of GCP or another major cloud platformand its use in supporting modern digital/mobile architectures.\n\nExperience with mobile experimentation, feature management, analytics and customer-experience telemetry.\n\nFamiliarity with emerging uses of AI-assisted software engineering and generative AIin the software-development lifecycle.\n\nWhat's in it for you?\nDiversity, Equity, Inclusion & Allyship - We strive to create an inclusive culture where every employee is empowered to reach their fullest potential, respected for who they are, and are embraced through bias-free practices and inclusive values across Scotiabank.
