The Principal Engineer also develops technical roadmaps and strategies, proposals, and is accountable for research and development, and represents the Bank on external industry groups.\nOversees the Storage and/or Backup Engineering Platforms ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, security requirements, internal policies, and procedures.\nThe incumbent is viewed internally as a Technology Expert with leader facilitation skills and the ability to influence others.\nThe Principal Engineer is to advise senior technology leaders on platform strategy, technology risk, resiliency posture, investment planning, and emerging industry trends, maintains superior technology skills and knowledge of emerging technological trends across at least a single technology discipline with strong working knowledge of other key technologies.\nThe incumbent will research, plan, define and support designs in support of the departments mandate. They will proactively work to progress the architecture, and overall design of the Bank’s Information Systems as a corporate asset in supporting the Bank’s business objectives. This includes ensuring technical directions and options consider the customer, constraints and future enhancements in network communication, hardware, system software and development software. The incumbent will also ensure all components will interoperate and provide the infrastructure to support future strategic initiatives.\nIs this role right for you? In this role, you will:\nIn conjunction with the other GTEP Engineering and Architecture teams: Develop, Define, design, engineer, and implement hardware and solutions and maintain patterns and standards for On-Premises and Cloud Native Backup Solutions including monitoring and automation.\nAccountable for defining and maintaining the enterprise data protection architecture strategy, standards, reference architectures, and technology roadmaps across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.\nDefine and implement policies, standards and patterns for cyber vaulting, immutable storage, air-gapped recovery by driving an enterprise recovery validation exercises, disaster recovery testing, and recovery assurance programs to ensure business recovery objectives are achievable.\nDefine enterprise standards for protection of Kubernetes, OpenShift, cloud-native applications, SaaS platforms, and hybrid cloud workloads.\nLead cross-disciplinary efforts to research, incubate, test, and perform proof of concepts of new and innovative Technologies and solutions for potential use in the Bank in conjunction with the other GTEP Operations and Engineering teams\nDirect engagement with regional and subsidiaries constituents to provided Engineering direction and input on:\n- Prioritized initiatives\n- Infrastructure patterns, principals, frameworks, and standards to align with globally approved offerings\n- Approach, including when standard does not exist today (leads to interaction with business and Architecture Teams)\n- Participate in regional Backup Design Councils and the GTEP Architectural Review Board\nResearch and partner with vendors and management to select products that best meet Scotiabank needs, lead product lifecycle planning including technology evaluations, roadmap development, vendor strategy, platform consolidation, and technology refresh initiatives.\nWork with the GTEP teams to capture and document standards, infrastructure patterns, principals, and frameworks in a consistent and clear format.\nProvide highest-level technical escalation support for complex incidents, major outages, and critical platform issues supporting operations teams.\nDrive platform reliability, resiliency, automation, and operational excellence initiatives.\nEnsure all changes to systems are recorded and properly executed with approval (Change Management)\nReview the performance of systems and plan for technological refresh and cater for future expansion (Capacity Management)\nResponsible for managed platforms capacity planning activities in partnership with Operations and LoBs.\nEnsure platforms meet:\n- Business growth demands\n- Performance requirements\n- Cost optimization targets\nAlign forecasts with investment planning and infrastructure strategy\nEnsure platforms evolve to support:\nNew capabilities\n- Security enhancements\n- Automation-first operations\nTranslate business needs into engineering deliverables and platform roadmaps.\nDrive automation of manual, repetitive, and operationally intensive tasks, including:\n- Configuration drift detection\n- Provisioning workflows\n- Monitoring and remediation actions\nImprove efficiency, reduce operational risk, and enable scale and consistency\nAct as the final engineering authority for backup platform architecture decisions, standards exceptions, and technology selection recommendations.\nDo you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
