A vehicle dating back to 1960. One that forged the path for future generations of rugged SUVs and trucks and will do so once again.\nBut Scout is more than just a brand, it’s a legacy steeped in a culture of exploration, caretaking, and hard work.\nThe Scout brand is all about respect. Respect for the past and the future by taking an iconic American brand that hasn’t been around for a while, electrifying it, digitizing it, and loading it with American innovation. Respect for communities by creating a company that stands for its people and its customers. Respect for both work and play, with vehicles that are equally at home at a camp site, a job site, or on a Tuesday commute. And respect for our customers by developing two powertrains that meet their requirements - an all-electric powertrain as well as the Harvester™ range extender powertrain which includes a built-in gas-powered generator with an estimated 500 miles of combined range.\nAt Scout Motors, we empower our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams to innovate. What makes a Scout employee? Someone who is a visionary and a leader, who seeks new paths and shares lessons learned. A knowledgeable doer who collaborates across the company to build better. A go-getter with unrivaled passion.\nJoin us at Scout Motors and be part of shaping the future of transportation. If you're ready to drive change and make history, apply now!\nOverview\nWe are seeking a Manager, Embedded Platform Engineering to lead a team focused on making platform engineering successful where it matters most: with the engineering teams building and operating our products. \nThe Embedded Platform Engineering team partners directly with product, application, data, integration, and other engineering teams to adopt and evolve shared platform capabilities. Rather than operating as a traditional support organization, the team works alongside engineers to establish modern engineering practices, accelerate platform adoption, remove developer friction, and bring real-world feedback into the platform roadmap. \nThis is a high-profile, highly collaborative leadership role with significant visibility across the technology organization. The manager will engage with engineering leaders, architects, product teams, security, infrastructure, and other stakeholders to execute platform strategy. \nSuccess is not simply measured by deploying tools. It is measured by creating an amazing developer experience in which teams can build, deploy, observe, operate, and improve their services safely and efficiently. \nThe Embedded Platform Engineering team is a dedicated engineering organization, not floating or ticket-based support. Its role is both technical and cultural: helping teams adopt self-service capabilities, golden paths, and SLO-driven operational practices while developing sustainable ownership within product teams.\nWhat you’ll do\nBecome part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:\nLead and Grow the Embedded Platform Engineering Team \nLead, coach, and develop a team of platform engineers working directly with engineering organizations. \nEstablish clear technical direction, priorities, engineering standards, and expectations for the team. \nCreate a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer-focused engineering. \nSupport professional growth through mentoring, feedback, technical leadership, and career development. \nBuild a team capable of balancing hands-on engineering, technical consultation, platform enablement, and stakeholder engagement. \nEstablish clear operating models among Embedded Platform Engineering, Core Platform Engineering, and product engineering teams. \nKeep the team focused on repeatable platform improvements rather than becoming a long-term substitute for product-team ownership. \nDrive Platform Adoption \nPartner directly with engineering teams to understand delivery challenges and help them adopt common platform capabilities and practices. \nEmbed platform engineers with teams when needed to accelerate adoption and establishsustainable engineering patterns. \nHelp teams move from bespoke, manually operatedimplementations toward reusable, automated, and self-service platform capabilities. \nPromote paved roads and golden paths that make secure, reliable, and supportable delivery the easiest optionfor engineers. \nIdentifyrecurring friction and translate those findings into improvements to the shared platform. \nWork closely with Core Platform Engineeringso product-team feedback influences platform capabilities, priorities, and roadmap decisions. \nDefine measurable outcomes for platform adoption, developer experience, engineering efficiency, and service reliability. \nChampion Developer Experience \nMake developer experience a first-class engineering outcome. \nReduce unnecessary cognitive load and friction in infrastructure provisioning, software builds, deployments, observability, and production operations. \nPromote automation, paved roads, reusable patterns, documentation, and self-service experiences wherever practical. \nBalance standardization, security, governance, and operational requirements with the practical needs of engineering teams. \nEstablish feedback mechanisms that identifywhere developers struggle and where platform capabilities should evolve. \nSimplify onboarding, local development, testing, deployment, production readiness, and ongoing service operations. \nLead Modern Cloud and Delivery Practices \nProvide technical leadership for AWS-based platform architecture and cloud-native engineering. \nGuide teams in adopting modern CI/CD and GitOpspractices using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and Kargo. \nDrive Infrastructure as Code and platform automation using Terraform and Crossplane. \nPromote effective use of Docker, Kubernetes, declarative configuration, and automated software-delivery patterns. \nHelp teams design secure, resilient, observable, and supportable production services. \nPartner with architecture, security, operations, and engineering stakeholders to establishreusable technical standards. \nBuild Reliability into the Developer Experience \nEstablish reliability as a shared responsibility between platform and product teams. \nHelp teams define meaningful Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs). \nUse error budgets to inform tradeoffs among reliability, operational risk, technical debt, and deliveryvelocity. \nEncourage teams to design forobservability, resilience, operational readiness, and supportability from the beginning. \nHelp teams establishappropriate healthsignals, alerts, dashboards, runbooks, and production-readiness criteria. \nGuide teams in learning from incidents and translating findings into platform and application improvements. \nEngage and Influence Across the Organization \nDevelop strong relationships with engineering managers, product leaders, architects, security teams, infrastructure teams, and senior technology leaders. \nCommunicate platform strategy and technical direction to engineering and non-engineering audiences. \nBuild alignment among stakeholders with different priorities, constraints, and levels of technical understanding. \nPartner with Platform leaders on planning activities \nPromote adoption of established engineering practices \nServe as a trusted advisor on platform engineering, developer experience, cloud-native architecture, Kubernetes, software delivery, and service reliability. \nLocation & Travel Expectations:\nThis role will be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC. \nThis role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. \nApplicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.\nWhat you’ll bring \nWe expect all Scout employees to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset. You’ll be comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You’ll take a collaborative approach to achieve ambitious goals. build relationships and influence stakeholders throughout a complex organization. \nExperience working with engineering teams as internal customers and translating their needs into platform improvements. \nA coaching mindset that helps teams learn and adopt sustainable engineering practices rather than simply handing them solutions. \nAbility to balance strategic leadership, people management, stakeholder engagement, and technical decision-making. \nStrong judgment when balancing developer velocity, reliability, security, standardization, and operational risk. \nTechnical Experience \nStrong experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures. \nDeep understanding of CI/CD, GitOps, and modern software-deliverypractices. \nHands-on experience with GitHub and GitHub
