A vehicle dating back to 1960. One that forged the path for future generations of rugged SUVs and trucks and will do so once again.\nBut Scout is more than just a brand, it’s a legacy steeped in a culture of exploration, caretaking, and hard work.\nThe Scout brand is all about respect. Respect for the past and the future by taking an iconic American brand that hasn’t been around for a while, electrifying it, digitizing it, and loading it with American innovation. Respect for communities by creating a company that stands for its people and its customers. Respect for both work and play, with vehicles that are equally at home at a camp site, a job site, or on a Tuesday commute. And respect for our customers by developing two powertrains that meet their requirements - an all-electric powertrain as well as the Harvester™ range extender powertrain which includes a built-in gas-powered generator with an estimated 500 miles of combined range.\nAt Scout Motors, we empower our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams to innovate. What makes a Scout employee? Someone who is a visionary and a leader, who seeks new paths and shares lessons learned. A knowledgeable doer who collaborates across the company to build better. A go-getter with unrivaled passion.\nJoin us at Scout Motors and be part of shaping the future of transportation. If you're ready to drive change and make history, apply now!\nOverview\nAs a Staff Frontend Engineer on the Customer Experience team, you will be a technical anchor for the customer-facing experiences that define how people buy a vehicle with us. You will drive frontend architecture across key parts of the purchase journey, covering trade-in, vehicle configuration, finance and leasing, and delivery, building interfaces that are fast, accessible, and crafted to earn customer trust at every step. \nYou will shape how the team approaches UI architecture, component systems, and frontend performance, and you will work closely with engineering, product, and design to raise the quality bar on everything the customer sees and interacts with. \nWhat you’ll do\nBecome part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:\nLead frontend architecture decisions across your domains, making considered choices about component design, state management, rendering strategy, and application structure that the team can build on confidently. \nBuild high-quality, performant customer-facing experiences end-to-end, from UI implementation through API integration, error handling, and production monitoring. \nOwn frontend performance within your domains: Core Web Vitals, rendering performance, and UI resilience when backend services or third-party integrations are degraded. \nContribute to and help evolve the shared component library and design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and good developer ergonomics across customer-facing surfaces. \nPartner closely with product and design, contributing a strong technical perspective to interaction and UX decisions and flagging tradeoffs that affect performance, accessibility, or long-term maintainability. \nDrive technical initiatives within the team, authoring design docs and RFCs and establishing frontend patterns that become the default way the team builds. \nConduct thorough code and design reviews, author architectural decision records, and help maintain a high engineering bar across the team. \nMentor and grow senior engineers, helping them sharpen their architectural thinking, design system instincts, and ownership of the customer experience. \nChampion accessibility as a core engineering requirement throughout the development lifecycle. \nChampion pragmatic AI-assisted development, evaluating tools, contributing to team norms, and helping engineers use them effectively. \nLocation & Travel Expectations:\nThis role will be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC. \nThis role requires 1-3 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. Subject to change. \nApplicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.\n Travel: Domestic travel required. Valid driver's license required. \nWhat you’ll bring \nWe expect all Scout employees to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset. You’ll be comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You’ll take a collaborative approach to achieve ambitious goals. Here's what else you'll bring: \nEducation/Certifications: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field \n8+ years of frontend engineering experience, with staff-level or equivalent technical scope. \nDeep expertise in modern frontend technologies including WebGL, GSAP, Framer, and Astro, with a focus on building performant, maintainable systems. \nStrong command of React and TypeScript, including advanced patterns, performance optimization, and application architecture at scale. \nExperience contributing to or owning component libraries and design systems. \nSolid instincts for UX and interaction design, with the ability to think about the customer experience and not just the implementation. \nStrong grasp of frontend performance: Core Web Vitals, rendering strategies (SSR, SSG, CSR), code splitting, and bundle optimization. \nSolid understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and experience building inclusive experiences in practice. \nProven ability to lead technical work through design docs, architecture reviews, and influence within and across teams. \nExperience working closely with design and translating design intent into technically sound, maintainable implementations. \nClear communicator, able to articulate frontend tradeoffs to product, design, and engineering stakeholders. \nWhat you'll gain\nThe benefits of joining Scout include the chance to build products and a company from the ground up.
