Join us in our mission to transform how people work.\nAbout the role\nWe're looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Core Product Engineering team, which powers the document workflows millions of people rely on every day: viewing, editing, embedding, and exporting content, along with the integrations that connect Scribe to the rest of a customer's stack. You'll ship well-scoped backend work across these core systems, building technical judgment alongside an experienced team while contributing to both existing product surfaces and new, greenfield projects.\nWhat you'll do\nBuild and ship backend features in our Django monolith, spanning core document workflows (viewing, editing, embeds, exports) as well as new greenfield projects that expand what Scribe can do\n\nImprove performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers in well-scoped areas\n\nCollaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive and reliable experiences at scale\n\nIncorporate feedback from teammates to continuously grow your craft\n\nWrite thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and pay attention to observability and performance in your work\n\nWhat we're looking for\nYou have 3+ years of experience building backend applications\n\nYou have solid experience with Python\n\nYou can optimize endpoint performance and database queries in code you own\n\nYou’re a strong advocate for automated testing\n\nYou're familiar with engineering best practices and eager to deepen them\n\nYou’re user-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work\n\nNice to have\nExperience with Django (not required, but a big plus)\n\nStartup experience (not required, but we build and move fast!)\n\nOur backend tech stack\nPython + Django\n\nPostgreSQL\n\nRedis\n\nCelery + AmazonMQ\n\nInfrastructure in Terraform (AWS)\n\nWhy you'll love working here\nHard, open problems.
