As a Disability Confident Level 1 employer, we are committed to making our recruitment processes and working environments accessible and supportive for everyone.\nRole Overview\nWe are looking for a highly skilled QA Automation Tester with extensive experience in designing, developing and executing automation frameworks across UI, API and microservices-based applications.\nIn this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the quality, reliability and performance of government digital services, with a focus on meeting GOV.UK Service Standard and Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) requirements.\nKey Responsibilities\nAutomation and Framework Development\nDesign, develop and maintain robust automation frameworks for UI and API testing.\n\nBuild automation frameworks from the ground up, following industry best practices.\n\nDevelop and maintain automated test scripts using Java, JavaScript, Playwright, Selenium, Cypress and REST Assured.\n\nCreate and maintain automated API test suites using Postman, REST Assured or equivalent tools.\n\nIntegrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.\n\nTest Planning and Execution\nDevelop and execute automation-focused test plans for GOV.UK digital services.\n\nEnsure comprehensive test coverage across functional, regression and integration testing.\n\nSupport User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validate end-to-end user journeys.\n\nIdentify opportunities to improve test coverage, efficiency and automation reliability.\n\nDefect Management and Quality Reporting\nIdentify, document and track defects using tools such as Azure DevOps and Jira.\n\nCollaborate with developers to reproduce, investigate and resolve defects.\n\nProduce clear, data-driven test reports and automation execution summaries.\n\nMonitor automation results, identify recurring failures and recommend improvements.\n\nAgile Delivery and Collaboration\nActively participate in Agile ceremonies, including Scrum and Kanban activities.\n\nCollaborate with developers, product managers, business analysts and other QA engineers.\n\nDefine and refine test strategies, prioritising automation and continuous quality improvement.\n\nProvide technical guidance and mentor junior testers where required.\n\nCompliance and Quality Standards\nAlign testing practices with relevant GOV.UK Service Standard and DDaT requirements.\n\nSupport the validation of security, accessibility and performance requirements through automated and manual testing, where appropriate.\n\nEnsure testing approaches contribute to the delivery of reliable, accessible and user-centred digital services.\n\nTechnical Skills and Experience\nAt least 6 years of experience as a QA Automation Tester or in a similar role.\n\nStrong proficiency in Java and JavaScript for test automation development.\n\nExtensive hands-on experience with UI automation tools and frameworks, including Playwright, Selenium and Cypress.\n\nStrong experience with API testing tools, including REST Assured and Postman.\n\nProven experience designing and developing automation frameworks from scratch.\n\nA solid understanding of microservices architecture and contract testing, including API testing.\n\nExperience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.\n\nProficiency in Git and version control practices.\n\nFamiliarity with UI technologies, including React, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, to support effective test validation.\n\nGood knowledge of SQL and experience testing relational databases.\n\nStrong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.\n\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in Agile teams.\n\nOur Commitment to Inclusion\nScrumconnect Consulting is committed to building an inclusive, accessible and supportive workplace.
