This includes defining recording subsystem architecture, specifying electrical and magnetic component requirements, designing system features, validating and integrating these components and features into new HDD products, and ensuring successful product ramps.\nAbout the role - you will:\nAs a Sr. Staff Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and hands-on innovation to advance Seagate’s recording subsystem technology. Responsibilities include:\nDesign channel-enabled architectures and component technology bundles that provide disruptive drive capacity, performance, and reliability gains.\nFor the current physical recording channel, identify channel detection technologies that harvest opportunities relative to the theoretical capacity entitlement.\nUnderstand the future migration of the physical recording channel and develop novel channel detection, optimization, and adaptation techniques that exploit the changing characteristics.\nWork with channel vendors to specify and evaluate new channel technologies.\nDevelop time-efficient physics-informed methods for tuning the channel in the factory process to accommodate the sources of variation in the HAMR recording system.\nProvide guidance to head, media, and drive teams on how to use the R/W channel for design feedback and screening.\nWork as a hands-on practitioner to perform bench testing with drive mules to demonstrate the feasibility of new channel-enabled system technologies.\nCreate and use channel models that can be used with synthesized or real waveforms to demonstrate the feasibility of new channel-enabled system technologies.\nContribute to Seagate’s IP portfolio in the form of invention disclosures, patents, trade secrets, journal articles, and/or white papers.\nPerform drive level HAMR recording experiments to clarify the paths to ADC growth.\nAbout you:\nYou are an innovative and self-motivated worker driven by curiosity\nYou have excellent verbal and written communication skills\nYou have a reputation for honesty, integrity, showing respect toward others, and effectively collaborating within a diverse team\nYou are a recognized subject matter expert that can provide technical leadership across organizational boundaries\nYour experience includes:\nCommunications channel expertise, including signal processing, information theory, modulation codes, error correction codes, equalization, and timing recovery.\nQueuing theory and/or AI expertise a plus.\nMagnetic recording knowledge a plus (recording physics including head, media, preamp, and channel interactions)\nLab data acquisition and analysis instruments such as oscilloscopes, digitizers, GPUs, and spectrum analyzers.\nExperience in programming languages (Cuda, C++, Fortran, Python)\nDemonstrated team leadership and organization skills. \nBachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) and 12+ years of experience or master’s degree in the same and 8+ years’ experience or PhD and 5+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.\nLocation:\nOur Longmont product-design campus is nestled against the foothills with exceptional views of the Rocky Mountains.
