This position serves as the mechanical engineering subject matter expert, providing technical leadership for capital projects, facility upgrades, system reliability improvements, and operational excellence initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in mechanical system design for commercial, industrial, or manufacturing facilities and hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license.\nAbout the role - you will:\nMechanical Systems Engineering\nLead the design, specification, and engineering of HVAC systems, including:\nAir handling units (AHUs)\nChilled water systems\nCooling towers\nHeating systems\nExhaust and ventilation systems & chemical scrubber\nBuilding controls automation, control sequence & controls point list\nISO 5, 6 & 7 Cleanroom and critical environment HVAC systems (if applicable)\nDesign, evaluate, and optimize facility utilities systems, including:\nDomestic water systems\nProcess water systems\nCooling water systems\nWater treatment systems\nPumps and distribution networks\nCDA, PVAC, and Housekeeping vacuum systems\nDevelop engineering calculations, equipment specifications, construction drawings, and design standards.\nEnsure all mechanical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.\nProject Management & Capital Improvements\nLead mechanical engineering efforts for capital improvement projects from concept through commissioning.\nDevelop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and cost estimates.\nCoordinate with architects, engineering consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.\nReview and approve engineering designs, submittals, and technical documentation.\nSupport construction activities, commissioning, startup, and system acceptance.\nFacility Operations & Reliability\nProvide technical support for facility operations and maintenance teams.\nInvestigate equipment failures and recurring system issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.\nDevelop reliability improvement strategies for critical infrastructure systems.\nMonitor system performance and recommend energy-efficient operational improvements.\nEstablish preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for mechanical systems.\nCompliance & Safety\nEnsure compliance with building codes, mechanical codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.\nParticipate in facility risk assessments and hazard analyses.\nSupport environmental sustainability and energy management initiatives.\nMaintain engineering documentation, standards, and record drawings.\nTechnical Leadership\nServe as the facility's mechanical engineering subject matter expert.\nMentor junior engineers and technical staff.\nDevelop and maintain facility engineering standards and best practices.\nEvaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.\nAbout you:\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, data center, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or commercial facilities environments.\nActive Professional Engineer (PE) license.\nDemonstrated experience designing HVAC systems for large or complex facilities.\nDemonstrated experience designing water distribution, process water, and utility water systems.\nProficiency with engineering calculations, specifications, and mechanical design practices.\nExperience managing engineering and construction projects.\nStrong understanding of:\nASHRAE standards\nInternational Mechanical Code (IMC)\nInternational Building Code (IBC)\nNFPA standards\nEnergy codes and sustainability practices\nExcellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.\nYour experience includes:\nExperience supporting manufacturing or high-tech industrial facilities.\nExperience with central utility plants and chilled water systems.\nExperience with building management systems (BMS) and facility monitoring systems.\nLEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) certification.\nExperience with AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical system modeling software.\nPMP certification or formal project management experience.\nLocation:\nSeagate’s Normandale campus, spanning Bloomington and Edina, MN, serves as the global hub for recording head development and manufacturing. Numerous dining, shopping, and recreational options are located just minutes away.\nThe estimated base salary range for this position is $109,470.40 - $159,542.00.
