With over 45 years of technology leadership, Seagate delivers trusted storage solutions for Cloud, Enterprise, Edge, and Consumer markets, powering the infrastructure behind AI, digital transformation, and the world’s growing data economy.\nOur Software Engineering organization develops embedded software for Seagate storage products, combining strong software fundamentals with close-to-hardware design to deliver reliable, high-performance product behavior.\nWe are currently recruiting for multiple openings within this role.\nAbout the role - you will:\nDesign, implement, and integrate embedded software changes in C/C++ that improve reliability, performance, manufacturability, and product readiness for assigned storage platform features or components.\nApply strong computer science fundamentals, modular design, clear interfaces, and testable implementation practices to deliver maintainable software across products and releases.\nInvestigate and resolve product development issues involving embedded software, hardware interactions, firmware interfaces, operating environments, and storage system behavior.\nSupport technical closure of defects and integration issues from reproduction and root cause analysis through corrective action, validation support, risk awareness, and stakeholder communication.\nContribute to design reviews, code reviews, debug strategy, and defect prevention practices to improve software quality and team execution.\nShare domain knowledge, provide informal guidance to less experienced engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to reach practical, high-quality technical decisions.\nAbout you:\nYou build reliable, embedded software that is understandable, testable, extensible, and maintainable over multiple product releases.\nYou understand how software interacts with hardware, operating systems, storage architecture, and product behavior, and you use that understanding to make sound engineering tradeoffs.\nYou are comfortable working through technical ambiguity, breaking down problems, and communicating clear analysis, options, and execution plans.\nYou take ownership of assigned work, recognize related product and quality risks, and look for practical ways to improve software practices, tools, and team effectiveness.\nYour experience includes:\nBachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) and 5+ years of experience or master’s degree in the same and 3+ years’ experience or PhD and 0+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.\nStrong foundation in operating systems, concurrency, memory management, data structures, algorithms, and computer architecture, with proficiency developing embedded software in C/C++.\nExperience debugging embedded, firmware, or system-level issues using structured root-cause analysis, instrumentation, logs, lab tools, and cross-functional collaboration.\nExperience contributing to design, implementation, integration, validation support, and release readiness in a hardware-dependent software environment.\nYou might also have:\nExperience with embedded operating systems, device drivers, storage systems, real-time software, low-level platform software, firmware interfaces, or hardware bring-up.\nExperience contributing to modular design, interface definition, test strategy, build systems, CI/CD, static analysis, or software quality tools.\nKnowledge of HDD devices, storage protocols, system-level performance analysis, reliability considerations, failure modes, or storage subsystem behavior.\nExperience sharing technical knowledge, supporting debug efforts, collaborating across teams, or improving local engineering practices.\nLocation:\nThis position may be based at either our Longmont, CO or Shakopee, MN campus.\nOur Longmont product-design campus is nestled against the foothills with exceptional views of the Rocky Mountains. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.\nSeagate offers comprehensive benefits to its eligible employees, including, but not limited to, , eligibility to participate in discretionary bonus program, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short-and long-term disability, 401(k), employee stock purchase plan, health savings account, dependent care, and healthcare spending accounts.
