The work performed by this team directly informs the Company's ten-year storage product roadmap.\nAbout the role - you will:\nConduct hands-on research with advanced data recording systems including HAMR, all-optical magnetic recording, and ferroelectric data storage.\nDesign and perform experiments to understand the fundamental recording physics of these technologies, using tools such as scanning probe microscopy, spinstand, electrical characterization, or custom test/measure tools.\nDevelop experimental methods and custom metrology for evaluating emerging storage technologies such as ferroelectric recording; formulate measurement methods to evaluate device concepts.\nDesign, test, and characterize prototype devices, including RF and microwave components.\nThrough measurements, provide insight into performance limiters, reliability failure modes, and underlying electrical, magnetic, optical, and thermomechanical mechanisms.\nCollaborate with a highly cross-functional team that includes experts in transducer design, media development, physical characterization, electrical engineering, materials science, signal processing, information theory, and data analysis.\nWork closely with modelers to elucidate recording physics challenges.\nCommunicate your findings with engineers and leadership at all levels within the company.\nContribute to Seagate’s IP portfolio in the form of invention disclosures, patents, trade secrets, peer-reviewed journal articles, and/or white papers\nAbout you:\nSelf-motivated and demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment and learn new technology\nStrong collaboration and written and oral communication skills\nYour experience includes:\nResearch experience with ferroelectric or multiferroic materials and devices\nExperience with lab electronics (oscilloscope, SMUs, AWG, spectrum analyzer, VNA, etc.)\nExperience with scanning probe microscopy (AFM, MFM, SKPM, SNDM, SMIM, etc.)\nExperience developing experimental tools or techniques to investigate surface and interface phenomena.\nExperience with RF/microwave devices, circuit design and evaluation is desirable.\nExperience with programming languages (Python, C++, etc.)\nA Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering or similar discipline.\nLocation:\nOur Bloomington, MN campus (Normandale) spans two suburbs, Edina and Bloomington, and serves as the Recording Head development and manufacturing arm of Seagate. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
