We offer generous benefits, including retirement, paid time off, paid parental leave, health insurance, dental, and vision benefits, life insurance and long and short-term disability, and more.\nKey Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job\nSupports the pharmacist\nRetrieves medications from shelf of dispensing robot (if available), counts medications, and labels containers under the supervision of the pharmacist.\n\nCleans and refills the dispensing robot and counting devices daily and as needed.\n\nOrders and replaces stock in the pharmacy\n\nRetrieves and interprets medication orders; performs pharmaceutical calculations; enters orders into pharmacy computer system for pharmacist’s review.\n\nLabels, fills, and delivers medication to appropriate patient care locations.\n\nDemonstrates ability to perform medication adjudication, including contacting/resolving medication-related pharmacy billing rejections.\n\nMaintains equipment and performs required recordkeeping\nConducts inventory, orders, receives and stocks drugs and supplies\n\nPerforms restocks and cleans the IV Hood before and after compounding, cleans the entire IV room daily and performs other scheduled cleanings.\n\nMaintains log of hood pressures and notify maintenance of insufficient air flow.\n\nRefills the emergency room and unit-based dispensing machines and files proper paperwork.\n\nFills out appropriate paperwork when preparing and delivering controlled substances.\n\nReceives and triages information requests; researches and provides information where appropriate, referring other inquiries to the pharmacist.\n\nRetrieves expired, recalled or discontinued medications from stock and patient areas; discards or returns to stock as appropriate; completes corresponding documentation\n\nAssists in documentation of unit-specific procedures and quality assurance activities under Pharmacist review.\n\nAssists customers\nAnswers telephone and takes requests for prescription refills from patients. Contacts patient’s providers when prescription has no refills.\n\nCommunicates with patients at the pharmacy window and directs traffic within the pharmacy and waiting room.\n\nTriages patient questions: answers questions when appropriate, refers other requests to a pharmacist.\n\nGives patients a courtesy call at 10 days, then returns prescriptions to stock when they are not picked up by patients within two weeks; processing prescriptions through software to reverse billing.\n\nDispenses prepared refill prescriptions under the supervision of the pharmacist.\n\nOther Functions\nChecks crash carts for used, outdated, or recalled drugs and replenishes them as needed.\n\nKeeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized.\n\nMonitors refrigerator temperatures in all refrigerators used to store medication in the pharmacy\n\nOther duties as assigned\n\nEducation, Certifications, and Licenses Required\nValid pharmacy technician license in the State of Alaska\n\nPharmacy Technician National Certification\n\nClinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and subsequently every three years\n\nHigh Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and subsequently every three years\n\nExperience Required\nFive years Hospital pharmacy, ambulatory clinic pharmacy, or retail pharmacy experience\n\nKnowledge of\nDrug names and strengths, generic equivalents, pharmaceutical and medical terminology and pharmacy law\n\nComputer systems as well as knowledge of operation and capabilities of all automated equipment within the pharmacy as well as those in satellite areas\n\nSkills in\nSterile compounding skills\n\nHazardous drug handling\n\nBasic math skills required to calculate dosage\n\nAbility to\nTriage questions and understand what type of questions should be referred to a pharmacist and what can be answered by a technician.\n\nMentor, train and assist coworkers\n\nLearn and teach automated pharmacy equipment\n\nCommunicate with patients’ verbally in person and on the phone\n\nMultitask with constant interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule\n\nWork cooperatively with all health-system and pharmacy staff and deal with difficult people\n\nSet priorities, solve problems, and respond quickly in emergencies\n\nComputer Skills\nProficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint\n\nPhysical Demands\nThe employee may frequently lift and/or push/pull up to 30 lbs.\n\nRequired Certifications:\nClinical Competency Assessment -
