The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.\nThe Intern, Additive Manufacturing will join the Innovation team in leading a growing Additive Manufacturing (AM) capability within Seaspan to leverage 3D printing and other AM processes to support ship design, fabrication, repair and maintenance. Our AM initiatives focus on applying emerging technologies to produce prototypes, functional components, and tooling, while integrating design, material, and process knowledge across the organization. Through innovative design, hands-on experimentation, process validation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, AM enables rapid iteration, cost-effective production, and sustainable manufacturing solutions. These efforts are helping Seaspan advance its AM readiness and integrate AM into broader workflows to improve vessel performance, fabrication efficiency, and operational flexibility. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of this modernization of ship building including developing AM solutions as well as increasing awareness and adoption within Seaspan.\nNote: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.\nWhat you’ll do:\nThe successful applicant for this position will provide day-to-day support to managers, engineers, specialists and production staff while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:\nSupport the AM team to achieve milestones and objectives that enhance Seaspan’s AM capabilities, developing, evaluating and implementing novel applications, processes and business cases through prototyping and delivery of pilot projects.\nDevelop, implement and rapidly deploy successfully validated AM processes to support and deliver requests from across the business and departments including specification determination, concept design, design reviews, modelling, prototyping and optimization, market research, cost estimates and supplier quotes.\nDevelop relationships and collaborate with various stakeholders including process owners, end users and external partners and suppliers.\nLeverage engineering knowledge and 3D modelling skills to create AM content, providing models, design work, and physical components to solve business needs.\nDocument and share activities through internal and external presentations.\nSupport the operation, procurement and maintenance of all AM equipment, ancillaries and materials - current and future.\nAs an innovation project, other to-be-determined activities will be encouraged based on the skillset and interest of the applicant.\nWhat you’ll bring:\nEnrollment in a second or later year of an Engineering, Sciences, Applied Sciences or similar degree, preferably in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Materials, or similar disciplines that develop, modify and utilize 3D CAD models and Engineering principles.\nStrong interest in Additive Manufacturing, 3D printing, design, R&D, and innovative solutions in a heavy manufacturing or marine environment. \nExperience with 3D printing, design for AM, or AM processes, materials, and equipment would be an asset.\nExperience in conducting technical investigations and technical report writing would be an asset.\nExperience 3D Modelling including Fusion360 would be an asset.\nExperience with mechanical/marine systems or other engineering/manufacturing systems would be an asset.\nExcellent computer skills including Excel/Word/PowerPoint\nAbility to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.\nExcellent time management skills with a focus on meeting and exceeding timelines.\nStrong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.\nWhy you'll love working here:\nA supportive learning environment, great team culture and hands-on experience and training.\nOpportunity to grow your career and connect with like-minded students. \nTo assist those that are using transit, we operate a complimentary shuttle bus Monday through Friday with various pick up and drop off points around North Vancouver. \nDue to the nature of this position, and requirements of the Government of Canada, this position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Canada Controlled Goods Program approval, Reliability Status (or higher depending on position) security clearance issued by the Government of Canada.
