The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.\nThe Intern, Structural Engineering will provide support to ships with ongoing Design and or going through production support. The intern will perform structural Calculations based on Classification Society rules or basic Engineering Judgement using first principal engineering Calculation or advanced Finite Element analysis Software. The intern will also create sketches and develop drawings under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer. Additional duties will be assigned as needed.\nNote: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.\nWhat you’ll do\nFocused on ship design and construction \nSupport providing calculation, Sketches and Drawings for Ship global Structures, Foundations and using Classification Rules.\nPerform studies and data collection for Structural Engineering when needed.\nCreate standard calculation guidelines using Class Rules when needed.\nWork directly under professional Engineer and support with daily assignment\nOther duties as assigned\nWhat you'll bring\nEnrollment in a 2nd year or above Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture degree program. \nGood understanding of basic Strength Calculation using First principle or Finite Element Analysis (2D or 3D).\nExcellent problem solving & communication skills (written & spoken) are a must.\nAbility to work cross functionally as part of a team with minimal direction.\nCurrently enrolled in Mechanical or Naval Architecture program.\nMotivated with creative energy and initiative.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationship with other Engineering disciplines.\nBeing persistent and perseverance.\nThe ability to work both independently and as part of a team.\ngood excellent presentation, organization and problem-solving skills.\nPC proficiency required. Solid understanding of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), AutoCAD.
