This role provides day-to-day leadership, guidance, and oversight to Payroll Clerks and Timekeepers, ensuring payroll processing, reconciliations, remittances, and reporting activities are completed in accordance with company policies, collective agreements, and legislative requirements.\nThe Payroll Supervisor also supports continuous improvement initiatives, payroll system enhancements, stakeholder collaboration, and regulatory compliance activities, while serving as a backup to the Payroll Manager as required.\nNote: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement\nWhat you'll do\nLead and oversee the accurate and timely processing of complex, full-cycle bi-weekly payrolls, including regular payroll, adjustments, retroactive payments, and off-cycle payments.\nEnsure payroll operations comply with legislation, collective agreements, company policies, and regulatory requirements.\nReview payroll reconciliations, audits, and reporting to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.\nMonitor payroll workflows and deadlines to ensure service levels and operational requirements are consistently met.\nSupport payroll year-end activities, including T4s, reconciliations, statutory reporting, and audits. Works within established systems to deliver prescribed outcomes for a designated area of financial control.\nResolve queries from internal or external customers by providing information on complex processes and the related policies, referring to others where necessary for the interpretation of policy.\nProvide leadership, coaching, training, and performance support to payroll team members.\nFoster a collaborative, customer-focused, and high-accountability team environment.\nStays up to date on collective agreement requirements and interprets these in day-to-day practices where necessary. \nIdentifies the needs for system performance to process payroll information accurately and efficiently, reporting these needs to the manager. Leads the execution in coordinating with Business Analysts to ensure payroll needs from the system are met.\nWhat you'll bring\nPost-secondary degree supplemented by advanced coursework in payroll and accounting.\nMinimum of ten (10) years’ experience processing full-cycle multi-company payrolls.\nMinimum of three (3) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.\nCompletion of the National Payroll Institute (NPI) Compliance Practitioner certification.\nCompletion of, or active enrolment in, the National Payroll Institute Certified Payroll Manager program.\nPrevious experience managing unionized employees preferred\nDemonstrated knowledge of union contract interpretation (required).\nStrong functional and technical payroll expertise.\nAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills.\nProven ability to lead and support payroll teams in a deadline-driven environment.\nStrong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.\nCustomer-focused with a commitment to providing responsive and professional service.\nAbility to work effectively both independently and collaboratively across teams.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.\nAbility to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policies, and collective agreements with professionalism and discretion.\nWhy you’ll love working here\nThis is a full-time, permanent position. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
