The role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements, regulatory standards, and company procedures. Reporting directly to an Area Manager, the position works closely with Trade Management to support production schedules and quality objectives.\nNote: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.\nThe following schedule is available:\nAfternoon: 3:30pm to 11:30pm (Monday to Friday)\nWhat you’ll do\nAssumes accountability for safety, cost, schedule and quality performance in area of responsibility.\nImplements and carries out Seaspan's health, safety, environmental and quality processes on the shop floor and strives to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity.\nDelivers product and customer quality standards.\nLeads team with schedule and priorities, assigning work to trade employees with the skill and ability to efficiently complete scheduled work.\nCollaborates with management to establish daily and weekly goals and holds employees accountable for performance. Reports internally on work process and status to Area Managers.\nRaises technical trade issues and implements solutions as identified.\nFollows and implements the collective agreement and standard methodologies to lead trades employees efficiently.\nResponsible for discipline, including performance and attendance management and directing chargehands effectively. \nPartners with the Workforce Development Team to ensure trade employees have the skills, equipment, training and certifications required to perform planned work activities.\nPromotes a work environment that is respectful and harassment-free.\nWorks closely with Trade Managers, HSE, Quality, Human Resources and the Employee Relations teams as required.\nWhat you’ll bring\nTrades certification, preferably as Red Seal Steamfitter/Pipefitter.\nMinimum 5 years of related trades work experience outside of trades apprenticeship or educational program.\nA minimum of an additional 3 years of previous supervisory experience in a heavy industrial environment, preferably unionized.\nDedication to safety and quality, with experience in the application of behavioral based safety.\nProficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing/shipbuilding (welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, paint/sandblasting, mechanical, rigging, etc.).\nStrong written, verbal and electronic communication skills.\nTime management and organization skills with a proven dedication to follow-up and follow-through.\nAbility to empower others, lead change, have difficult conversations and coordinate discipline when required.\nConflict resolution and negotiation skills to resolve disagreements quickly and successfully, bringing a problem-solving demeanor to conflicting approaches and priorities.\nAbility to build effective working relationships and collaborate with others towards a shared goal.\nAppreciation and understanding of the value of diversity within a team.\nProficiency with MS Office products and web-based applications.\nWhy you’ll love working here\nThis is a full-time, permanent position. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
