The role ensures that all tugs are utilized in the most cost-effective manner based on fleet and crew capabilities, crew change schedules, timing, location, availability of tugs and customer requirements. A significant part of the job is to manage ongoing changes of complex deliveries, which involves constant juggling and mobilization of all internal and external resources to accommodate new requirements.\nNote: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. This position operates on a five-week rotating schedule.\nWhat you'll do\nAllocates and updates scheduling and dispatching of tugs in the most cost-efficient manner with the goal to make barge deliveries on time and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction with as few tug hours as possible. \nCoordinates with other Dispatchers on arrivals and departures of tows, so that internal resources are re-deployed before hiring external charter boats to service the customer. If required, hires charter boats to ensure customer orders are completed on time.\nCoordinates with Marine Personnel regarding crew changes and crewing dispatch. Reports to Marine Personnel on various crewing problems and personnel issues. Coordinates and dispatches own callout crew to complete a job.\nCoordinates repair needs and dock days with Engineering Department. Monitors repair status and availability of each tug to maximize equipment utilization and Company profitability.\nActs as the first response for all tug and barge related emergencies. Advises second response including management, Port Captains and Safety personnel. \nReceives and handles front-line complaints from customers, facilities personnel, and the public on issues concerning the tugs and the shipboard personnel. \nAnswers public inquiries and provides information on various non-legal, non-sensitive matters.\nAll relevant documentation is kept up to date and monitored consistently for errors and corrections.\nDeals or assists with the inward and outward Custom Clearances for all vessels entering U.S. waters. Assists or arranges Custom Clearances with shipping Agents in U.S. ports, Canada Revenue and Custom Agency and Border Services.\nPerforms additional duties as required.\nWhat you'll bring\nPost-secondary education in logistics, transportation, or other related disciplines.\nDeck Officer Certification with Transport Canada.\nMinimum 5 years of marine experience preferably as a certified Deck Officer or an equivalent combination of education and experience.\nPrevious Marine Dispatch experience preferred. \nAbility to multi-task while staying mentally focused with the customer’s changing requirements.\nAbility to work well under pressure.\nAbility to display tact and diplomacy when dealing with complaints or implementing damage control measures.\nAbility to creatively solve problems and to make accurate decision within tight timelines.\nTime management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.\nUnderstanding of marine fleet and crew capabilities and operations.\nComputer proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and HELM.\nCommunication skills, with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.\nCustomer service orientation.\nWhy you'll love working here\nThis is a full-time, permanent position. \nIn addition to an annual bonus and pension plan matching, this role provides you a very competitive salary in line with the successful candidate’s experience. \nWe also provide a best-in-class health and wellness benefits package for this position, including such things as full health care (e.g. unlimited physiotherapy), dental, vision, life insurance, medical leave coverage, parental leave coverage, childcare benefit partnership, wellness/fitness reimbursement for memberships or registration fees, and an Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP). \nFree on-site gym.\nParking is included and to assist those that are using transit, we operate a complimentary shuttle bus Monday through Friday with various pick up and drop off points around North Vancouver. \nThe estimated salary for this position is $81,000 - $99,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
