Our Toronto team works on large, complex and high-profile matters involving business valuations, post-acquisition disputes, shareholder disputes, breaches of contract and other commercial disputes and international arbitrations across a wide range of industries. \nAssociates work closely with senior professionals and testifying experts on complex issues at the intersection of valuation, finance, accounting, economics and law. The role provides significant opportunities to develop technical expertise, contribute to expert reports and financial models, interact with clients and counsel, and support matters through hearings, trials and mediations. \nRESPONSIBILITIES \nDepending on experience and the requirements of each engagement, responsibilities will include: \nAssisting with the preparation of expert reports addressing business valuation and economic damages \nConducting economic, financial, industry and company-specific research \nAnalyzing financial and non-financial information and clearly communicating findings to team members, clients and counsel \nDeveloping valuation assumptions and parameters, including forecasts, discount rates and other financial inputs \nBuilding, reviewing and interpreting financial and valuation models \nAssisting with the preparation of rebuttal expert reports that assess the analyses and conclusions of other experts \nSupporting communications with clients, counsel and other professional advisers \nPreparing for and attending hearings, trials and mediations \nManaging assigned workstreams and contributing to the effective delivery of engagements \nQUALIFICATIONS \nCandidates should have: \nA bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or another relevant discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution \nDemonstrated progress towards a CBV, CPA, CFA, ACA/ACCA or equivalent international professional designation. \nApproximately one to three years of relevant professional experience \nStrong analytical and quantitative skills, together with the ability to solve complex financial and commercial problems clearly and concisely \nThe ability to interpret financial statements and work confidently with financial and non-financial information \nStrong Microsoft Excel skills and experience developing or reviewing financial models\nExcellent written, verbal and presentation skills in English \nThe ability to prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines and perform effectively in a fast-paced professional environment\nThe ability to understand new businesses, industries and factual circumstances quickly \nA collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams \nA willingness to travel domestically or internationally when required \nThe following qualifications would be advantageous: \nPrior experience in business valuation, economic damages, forensic accounting, dispute advisory, transaction advisory, audit, financial analysis or economic consulting\nAdditional language skills, reflecting the international nature of our practice \nExperience with financial databases such as S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg \nAt Secretariat, we believe in pay transparency and equity. Compensation for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, and location.
