Our Toronto team works on large, complex and high-profile matters involving business valuations, post-acquisition disputes, shareholder disputes, breaches of contract and other commercial disputes and international arbitrations across a wide range of industries. \nManagers lead the day-to-day delivery of engagements and work closely with senior professionals and testifying experts on complex issues at the intersection of valuation, finance, accounting, economics and law. The role includes developing and reviewing financial analyses, preparing expert reports, managing project teams, interacting directly with clients and counsel, attending trials and arbitration hearings, developing junior professionals, and contributing to the growth of the practice. \nRESPONSIBILITIES \nDepending on experience and the requirements of each engagement, responsibilities will include: \nManaging engagements and significant workstreams involving business valuation and economic damages \nDeveloping and reviewing complex financial models, valuation analyses, forecasts, discount rates and other financial inputs \nAnalyzing financial and non-financial information and identifying issues relevant to the valuation or quantification of economic damages \nConducting and directing economic, financial, industry and company-specific research \nPreparing and reviewing expert reports and other written analyses \nPreparing and reviewing rebuttal analyses that assess the analyses and conclusions of other experts \nCommunicating directly with clients and counsel regarding analyses, information requirements, findings and engagement progress \nManaging project plans, staffing, timelines, budgets and deliverables \nSupervising, reviewing and developing junior team members, including providing technical guidance and feedback \nPreparing for and attending hearings, trials and mediations \nSupporting testifying experts throughout the engagement and hearing process and contributing to business development and practice-building initiatives \nQUALIFICATIONS\nCandidates should have: \nA bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or another relevant discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution \nA CBV, CPA, CFA, ACA/ACCA or equivalent international professional designation \nApproximately five to eight years of relevant professional experience \nPrior professional experience in business valuation, economic damages, forensic accounting, dispute advisory or economic consulting \nStrong analytical and quantitative skills in business valuation and financial analysis, and the ability to develop practical and creative approaches to complex financial and commercial problems \nThe ability to interpret financial statements and other financial and non-financial information and identify issues relevant to an engagement \nAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills \nExcellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and concisely \nExperience managing projects or significant workstreams and working effectively under competing deadlines \nExperience supervising, reviewing and developing junior professionals \nA willingness to travel domestically or internationally when required \nThe following qualifications would be advantageous: \nExperience preparing expert reports or other analyses for litigation or arbitration proceedings \nInternational arbitration, direct client and counsel interaction, business development, practice-building experience. \nExperience with financial databases such as S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg \nExperience with VBA and/or python \nAdditional language skills, reflecting the international nature of our practice \nAt Secretariat, we believe in pay transparency and equity.
