This role combines technical motor engineering expertise with people leadership, offering the opportunity to drive operational performance, quality standards, and exceptional customer outcomes across our engineering function.\nAs Desktop Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for managing and developing a team of Desktop Motor Engineers, ensuring claims are handled efficiently, accurately, and in line with client requirements, industry standards, and service level agreements. You will play a key role in coaching colleagues, supporting technical decision-making, and driving continuous improvement across the department.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead, coach, develop and motivate a team of Desktop Engineers.\nManage day-to-day workflow, workload allocation and resource planning.\nEnsure service level agreements and operational targets are consistently achieved.\nProvide technical guidance on complex repair methodologies, vehicle damage assessments and total loss decisions.\nMonitor quality standards through audits and file reviews.\nSupport client relationships and act as an escalation point for technical and operational issues.\nAnalyse trends and identify opportunities for training and process improvement.\nEnsure compliance with internal governance, client requirements and industry regulations.\nDrive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and customer excellence.\nAbout You\nTo be successful in this role you will have:\nSignificant experience within motor engineering, vehicle damage assessment or claims engineering.\nStrong technical knowledge of vehicle repair methodologies, modern vehicle construction, total loss processes and vehicle valuations.\nExperience negotiating repair costs, methodologies and total loss settlements.\nPrevious leadership, supervisory or team management experience.\nDemonstrable ability to coach, mentor and develop colleagues.\nStrong stakeholder management and communication skills.\nExcellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.\nExperience of working within agreed service and performance targets.\nA strong customer and client-focused approach.\nEssential Qualifications and Skills\nATA Accreditation (or working towards accreditation).\nExperience using Audatex or similar estimating platforms.\nStrong understanding of vehicle construction and repair techniques.\nSound knowledge of insurance principles and claims handling processes.\nAbility to make independent decisions and provide technical direction.\nExcellent organisational and workload management skills\nDesirable Qualifications\nInstitute of Automotive Engineer Assessors (IAEA) Corporate Membership.\nInstitute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Membership.\nRecognised motor trade apprenticeship.\nCity & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Automotive Engineering.\nATA VDA Accreditation.\nWhat We Offer\nCompetitive salary.\nHybrid and flexible working arrangements.\n25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.\nSelf-Invested Personal Pension Scheme (SIPP).\nPrivate healthcare plan.\nLife assurance.\nEmployee Assistance Programme.\nGroup Income Protection.\nFlexible benefits package including green car scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, travel insurance, dental cover, digital GP services and wellbeing support.\nAccess to Sedgwick University, providing industry-leading training and professional development opportunities.\nWhy Join Sedgwick?\nAt Sedgwick, you'll have the opportunity to influence the future of our engineering operation while developing a high-performing team.
