This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the heart of the global supply chain, investigating complex cargo losses and helping clients navigate some of their most challenging transportation incidents. Sedgwick Global Specialty Marine is seeking an experienced and motivated Marine Cargo Surveyor to join our growing Goods in Transit team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of marine cargo and transportation claims, investigating losses affecting cargo moving across the global supply chain by sea, road, rail and air.

From damaged machinery and steel shipments to temperature-sensitive food products and high-value transit losses, no two days are the same.

As a Marine Cargo Surveyor, you will be trusted to investigate losses, identify causes, protect our clients' interests and provide clear technical advice to insurers and claim stakeholders.

The Skills you will have when you apply:

  • Marine Cargo Expertise - Experience in marine cargo surveying, goods in transit claims, cargo handling or transportation environments, with a strong understanding of how cargo moves through the global supply chain.
  • Investigative Capability - Proven ability to investigate complex losses, establish root causes, gather evidence and deliver clear, fact-based conclusions.
  • Logistics & Supply Chain Knowledge - Understanding of freight forwarding, transportation networks, warehousing, distribution operations and cargo movement across sea, road, rail and air.
  • Technical Assessment Skills - Ability to assess cargo damage, quantify losses and evaluate factors such as packing, handling, stowage and transportation methods.
  • Analytical Thinking - Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical information, identify trends and develop practical recommendations.
  • Report Writing - Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce concise, accurate and high-quality technical reports.
  • Stakeholder Management - Confidence building relationships with insurers, brokers, logistics providers, carriers, legal representatives and other key stakeholders.
  • Customer Focus - A professional and service-oriented approach, ensuring clients receive responsive support and expert guidance throughout the investigation process.
  • Organisation & Time Management - Ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple investigations simultaneously and consistently meet service level agreements and deadlines.
  • Commercial Awareness - Understanding of claim outcomes, mitigation opportunities, recovery prospects and the wider commercial implications of cargo losses.
  • Field-Based Surveying Experience - Comfortable attending inspections at ports, terminals, warehouses, distribution centres and customer premises across the UK.
  • Professional Credibility - Insurance, marine or transportation qualifications such as ACII, Cert CII or other relevant industry certifications would be advantageous.
  • Travel Flexibility - Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively as required to investigate losses and attend surveys.
  • Marine Claims Background - Previous experience within marine claims, cargo claims, loss adjusting or a related insurance environment would be highly beneficial.
