AI Native Engineer

We are looking for an experienced AI Native Developer who is passionate about building intelligent, AI-first applications that customers love. You will join a dynamic and fast-paced environment and work closely with product, engineering, data science, design, and customer-facing teams to develop innovative AI solutions that demonstrate the value and ROI of Sequoia's product offerings. This role requires a strong blend of software engineering expertise, AI/ML knowledge, and product thinking to design, build, and scale AI-powered experiences aligned with the company's vision.

Responsibilities:

• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Design, and Customer-facing teams to design, develop, and deploy AI-driven solutions and intelligent product experiences.
• Build, maintain, and optimise AI-native applications leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, orchestration frameworks, and modern AI platforms.
• Develop scalable backend services, APIs, integrations, and workflows that power AI-enabled products and automate business processes.
• Design and implement robust data pipelines, vector databases, embedding strategies, knowledge retrieval systems, and model evaluation frameworks.
• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable AI solutions that deliver measurable customer value.
• Work closely with engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle to ensure high-quality, secure, reliable, and performant AI applications.
• Evaluate, experiment with, and integrate new AI models, tools, frameworks, and technologies to continuously enhance product capabilities.
• Implement observability, monitoring, prompt management, testing, and guardrails to ensure AI system quality, reliability, and compliance.
• Optimise AI application performance, latency, scalability, and cost efficiency across cloud environments.
• Stay current with emerging AI technologies, foundation models, agentic systems, open-source frameworks, and industry best practices to identify strategic opportunities.

Requirements:

• 13+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with significant experience developing cloud-native or enterprise SaaS applications.
• Hands-on experience building AI/ML or Generative AI applications using technologies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Azure AI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar frameworks.
• Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, Java, or Go.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, APIs, microservices, cloud platforms, databases, distributed systems, and system integrations.
• Experience implementing RAG architectures, vector databases, embeddings, semantic search, prompt engineering, and AI evaluation frameworks.
• Deep understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, model orchestration, fine-tuning concepts, and modern AI development practices.
• Experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP and deploying AI workloads in production environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and optimise AI system performance.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and delivering products through the full software development lifecycle.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related technical discipline.
