This is a foundational role - the first in-house accounting hire in India - responsible for owning the full accounting operations for the India entity, managing the relationship with our outsourced accounting firm, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position will work closely with the Senior Accounting Manager on key processes, policies, and building out the India accounting function. As the India team grows, this role will lead and expand the local accounting team.\nWhat you'll do\nOwn and manage the India entity accounting function, including operation of the general ledger system, journal entries, and month-end close activities while meeting global close deadlines.\n\nReconcile, analyze, and resolve questions regarding assigned general ledger accounts timely and accurately, including multi-currency and complex bank accounts.\n\nAnalyze monthly and quarterly financial results, providing flux explanations for significant variances to management.\n\nOversee preparation of supporting schedules and footnotes for local financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.\n\nManage the fixed asset register, including capitalization, depreciation runs, asset disposals, and periodic physical verification; ensure proper classification and accounting treatment in line with company policy.\n\nManage India statutory compliance including GST, TDS, Professional Tax, and other filings in coordination with the outsourced accounting firm and corporate tax team.\n\nAnalyze differences between local statutory books and GAAP books (Indian Accounting Standards/US GAAP), including preparation of schedules supporting reconciling items.\n\nMonitor changes in Indian tax legislation applicable to the tech industry and assess potential impacts.\n\nServe as the primary liaison between the corporate accounting team and the outsourced accounting firm, managing deliverables, deadlines, and information flow.\n\nReview and approve vendor invoices with correct GST treatment, TDS deductions, and GL coding; prepare India payroll accounting entries and statutory deductions.\n\nAct as the first point of contact for India-based employees on accounting-related queries, including expense reimbursements, payroll questions, and general accounting matters.\n\nLead the local statutory audit process, including preparation of audit schedules, managing auditor queries, and coordinating with the outsourced firm and external auditors.\n\nDevelop, maintain, and document accounting policies and procedures for the India entity; identify and drive process improvement and automation opportunities.\n\nPartner with the internal systems team on initiatives to enhance accounting accuracy and automation of accounting processes.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams such as Tax, FP&A, HR, and Legal.\n\nSupport management in completing special projects and other tasks as assigned; contribute to building the India accounting team as the entity scales.\n\nWhat you'll bring\n7+ years of accounting experience with strong knowledge of Indian statutory and tax compliance (GST, TDS, Professional Tax, PF/ESI).\n\nProven track record in operational accounting, including managing outsourced accounting providers; prior experience working with a US-based multinational and across distributed teams in multiple time zones.\n\nSolid understanding of Indian Accounting Standards and/or US GAAP accounting; experience reconciling local statutory books to GAAP books.\n\nProfessional qualification preferred; CA (ICAI), ACCA or CPA.\n\nExperience in Workday Financials preferred; proficiency in Tally and Paybooks is a strong plus.\n\nAdvanced user of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).\n\nComfort using AI tools (e.g. Claude, Copilot, or similar) to accelerate research, draft documentation, and support day-to-day accounting workflows.\n\nAbility to build or contribute to process automations and workflows - experience with tools such as Claude, Google Apps Script, or similar is a plus.\n\nAbility to identify and analyze problems and provide solutions independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment.\n\nExcellent attention to detail, follow-up skills, strong work ethic, and accountability.\n\nExcellent communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies.\n\nBe Human With Us:\nBeing human isn’t about checking every box on a list.
