This hands-on laboratory roleprepares and analyzes metallographic samples, generates accurateand traceable test results, maintains laboratory equipment, and quickly escalates results that may affect production quality, machine qualification, or customer requirements. \nKeyResponsibilities \nMaintain sample identity and traceability from build plate and part location through preparation, testing, imaging, data entry, and final reporting. \nPrepare metallographic specimens through sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, andetchingusing controlled, repeatable methods. \nPerform optical microscopy and image analysis to document porosity, inclusions, cracks, melt-pool features, grain structure, preparationartifacts, and other material characteristics. \nPerform density measurements and report results according to approved methods and acceptance criteria. \nMeasure surface texture using contact or optical profilometry, distinguishing profile parameters such as RaandRzfrom areal parameters such as Sa. \nConduct hardness testing using Vickers, Rockwell, or microhardness methods, as applicable. \nPrepare specimens and coordinate testing for tensile, fatigue, chemical-composition, and dimensional evaluations. \nSafely handle, sample, and characterize metal powders, including particle-sizedistribution, morphology, flowability, apparentdensity, and contamination evaluations. \nExecute recurring production-quality tests according to controlled procedures and requiredturnaround times. \nSupport qualification of Area Printingmachines, materials, process parameter sets, heat treatments, and finishing operations. \nEnter, review,and organize test datain laboratoryand qualitysystems, inspection reports, travelers, and qualification documentation. \nCompare results with specifications and acceptance criteria; immediatelyescalate suspected defects, out-of-specification results, preparationartifacts, or equipment problems. \nAssistmetallurgy, process, quality, and manufacturingengineers with nonconformance review, root-cause investigations,corrective actions, and disposition of material. \nMaintain equipment calibration status, consumables, laboratory cleanliness, chemical inventories, and preventive-maintenancerecords. \nFollow all environmental, health, safety, quality, and document-control requirements. \nRequiredQualifications \nAssociate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent practical experience in metallurgy, materials science, manufacturing, welding, or a related discipline. \nHands-on experiencein a metallurgical, materials-testing, manufacturing, or quality laboratory. \nDemonstrated ability to prepare metallographic specimens and obtain consistent, artifact-free surfaces for evaluation. \nWorking knowledge of optical microscopyand the ability to recognize both material features and preparation artifacts. \nAbility to interpret engineering drawings, controlled work instructions, test methods, material specifications, and acceptance criteria. \nAbility to operateprecision measurement and laboratory equipment with consistent technique. \nStrong attention to detail, sample-control discipline, and accuratedocumentation practices. \nBasic proficiencywith spreadsheets and laboratory, manufacturing, or qualitydata-entry systems. \nAbility to work independently, manage routine testing priorities, and escalate issues appropriatelywhile following controlled procedures and safety requirements. \nPreferred Qualifications \nExperience with laser powder bed fusion, laser beam powder bed fusion of metals, or another metal additive-manufacturing process. \nExperience testing stainless steels, particularly 316L or 17-4PH. Experience with aluminum, titanium, nickelsuperalloys, tool steels, copperalloys, or other additive-manufacturing materials is also valuable. \nFamiliarity with applicable ASTM, ISO, AMS, ASME, or Nadcaprequirements. \nExperience with image-analysis software, scanning electron microscopy, or energy-dispersive spectroscopy. \nFamiliarity with tensile testing, heat treatment, hot isostatic pressing, machining, and surface-finishing processes. \nExperience working withinan ISO 9001, AS9100, or ISO/IEC 17025 quality system. \nPhysical and Work Environment Requirements \nAbility, with or without reasonable accommodation,to stand, kneel, crouch, bend, and perform detailed hands-on laboratory work for extended periods. \nAbility, with or without reasonable accommodation,to lift and carry up to 50 poundsand occasionally move heavierequipment with appropriate assistanceor material-handlingequipment. \nAbility to work safely in a metal additive-manufacturing environmentthatmay include metalpowders, laboratory chemicals, heated equipment, saws, grinders, polishers, furnaces, and related machinery. \nAbility to complete required hazardous-material, respiratory-protection, and equipment-safety training.\nMassachusetts Salary Range\nSalary Range\n$36—$42 USD\nSeurat Technologies is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values employees with a broad cross-cultural perspective.
