It is not full time work and we contact you when we have a request for work.\nPosition: Coating/Painting & Welding Inspector\nLocation: Ontario\nContract: Two-year subcontractor agreement\nSchedule: Intermittent, as and where required-not a confirmed full-time schedule\nSalary: $50 to $55/hr \nRequired certifications: NACE Level 2 and CWB Level 2\nExperience: Minimum seven years, including three years in quality assurance, vendor surveillance or shop inspections\n Travel expenses: Covered at cost when the inspection site is beyond a 200 km round trip from the inspector’s residence and requires an overnight hotel stay, subject to prior client approval\nScope of work:\nResponsible for monitoring advanced surface preparation and protective coating applications across steel, concrete, and other substrates\nUndertake coating inspections in fixed coating facilities (shops) as well as complex industrial field environments (oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, marine, and bridge structures)\nInspect surface cleanliness and profiles using industry standards (such as SSPC/NACE surface standards SSPC-SP1 through SP15 and tape test profiles)\nInspect specialized application methods and systems, including pipeline coatings, sheet linings, brick/tile linings, spray metallizing, hot-dip galvanizing, and automated application (dip, roller, flood, coil coating)\nEvaluate specialized generic coating types such as passive fireproofing, anti-fouling coatings, high-heat systems, and temporary protectives.\nConduct root-cause coating failure analysis (blistering, delamination, rust-back, cathodic disbondment) and risk-based inspection assessments.\nResponsible for inspecting, testing, and evaluating weld processes, welding, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and related equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.\nMaterial verification\nSupervision of Dimensional checks\nCollection & verification of documentation against ITP\nQuality document reviews including WPS / PQR, assessment of quality, and issue reports or recommendations for corrective actions to ensure the safety and structural integrity of welded components\nInspecting welds, reviewing welding procedures, and conducting visual and dimensional inspections\nExamining completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards.\nWitness non-destructive testing (NDT) and interpret / verify results. \nWitness & verify PWHT (if applicable) & pressure testing. \nVisual inspection on the quality of welding and mechanical projects. \nPrepare detailed reports documenting inspection results, including any issues found.\nObserving welders and preheating procedures\nRecording inspection results and any non-conformities\nInvestigating Non-Conformities i.e. identifying causes and assisting in corrective actions.\nAbility to communicate effectively with welders, engineers, and other personnel\n MUST NACE level 2, CWB level 2\nMinimum of seven (7) years Coating / Painting & welding inspections experience.\nThree (3) of these years should be in Quality Assurance / vendor surveillance / shop inspections\nIndustrial experience in Oil & gas / Power & Utility / Construction / Manufacturing, etc..\nInspection experience of pressure vessels, heat exchanger shells and channels, air coolers, metallic piping systems, piping components, and pressure relief devices, welded steel atmospheric storage tanks\nExperienced in witnessing NDE test (UT, PT, MT, RT, etc..) and verifying test reports.\n SGS is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and as such we recruit, hire, train, and promote persons in all job classifications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression and Indigenous status, or any other characteristics protected by law.\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
