As a Key Account Manager, you will be the key connection between our clients and internal laboratory teams, helping ensure samples, services and communication are managed smoothly from start to finish. You will support sample receipt, registration, logistics and dispatch, while also driving client engagement and business growth across the Newcastle and Hunter region.

You will play an important part in strengthening existing client relationships, developing new opportunities and promoting SGS services across environmental testing and related solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted point of contact for key environmental clients across the Newcastle and Hunter region.
  • Coordinate sample receipt, registration, labelling, storage, dispatch and logistics to support efficient service delivery.
  • Keep clients updated on sample status, turnaround times and any matters that may impact delivery.
  • Work closely with laboratory, operations and management teams to monitor service performance and resolve client needs.
  • Identify new business opportunities, support client meetings and contribute to account growth strategies.
  • Prepare, scope and follow up quotations and tenders in line with business objectives.
  • Build strong long-term relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Track client activity, revenue trends and opportunities for upselling or cross-selling SGS services.
  • Provide market insights, client feedback and emerging trends to support business planning.
  • Support field activities, including site visits, sample collection and marine sampling where required.
  • Assist with basic laboratory testing and support activities when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all work is completed in line with SGS quality, safety and compliance standards.

About You

  • Scientific qualification (Diploma or Degree) or relevant experience
  • Experience in environmental laboratory services and/or client services
  • Experience in business development, quoting or account management highly desirable
  • Current driver’s licence and ability to travel locally
  • Former experience in a high throughput laboratory highly desireable
  • General knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Preferred experience in the use of LIMS systems
