It is expected that, over a period of time, Materials Technologists obtain competency in all tests conducted in the laboratory.\nKnow and be comfortable with standards codes such as ASTM, ASME, CSA, NACE, API, AWS.\nAwareness of all testing results and how they apply to the given code. Technologists are expected to flag failed test results to their supervisor.\nLearn to personally organize their own daily testing tasks based on the workflow and due dates given to them.\nMaintain Laboratory and personal work area in a clean and professional manner.\nWork within the rules of the ISO 17025 quality program.\nMaintain Test equipment and conduct scheduled maintenance on test equipment.\nWork with customers and co-workers to improve work processes and resolve technical issues.\nFollows all company health, safety and environmental policies.\nFollows all Quality system protocols and reports any discrepancies to the Supervisor.\nMay be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.\n Education:\nA post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in Materials Engineering Technology, Welding Engineering Technology or other related program is required.\nExperience:\nUpon hiring, the Materials Technologist shall meet one of the following criteria for certification:\nBe registered with or be eligible for registration with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET)\n3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience would be an asset.\nTechnical Skills:\nMust be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.\nKnowledge Image analysis operation/software considered an asset\nCandidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. & Outlook).\nProven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.\nCandidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.\nAbility to work well with others & independently.\nProven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.\nWorks well under pressure.\nExtended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.\nTravel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.\nEnsures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.\nGood hand/eye coordination when handling samples & various equipment.\nMust use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job.
