We are accredited by NATA and ISO 9001, ensuring our services meet both Australian and international standards.\n Join a collaborative laboratory team where you'll play an important role in algal identification, microbiological analysis, and environmental testing. Working with microscopy and a range of analytical techniques, you'll contribute to the delivery of accurate, high-quality results while developing your technical expertise in a specialised scientific field.\nIn this role, you will:\nPerform the preparation and analysis of freshwater and wastewater samples for algal counts, species identification, and biovolume calculations, working with increasing autonomy and technical responsibility.\nConduct microbiological, asbestos, and BOD testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures.\nDeliver high-quality analytical results by ensuring samples are processed within holding times and turnaround requirements.\nMaintain a clean, organised, and efficient laboratory environment, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and protected.\nSupport data validation activities to ensure the accuracy and integrity of technical reports.\nCarry out routine instrument calibration and maintenance in line with documented procedures.\nWork within laboratory QA/QC requirements and NATA accreditation standards to maintain the highest levels of quality and compliance.\nPromote a strong safety culture by following safe work practices and using PPE and safety equipment as required.\nReport unsafe conditions or equipment issues promptly and contribute to a safe working environment.\nContinuously develop your technical knowledge and skills to stay current with industry best practices and emerging techniques.\nSupport the wider laboratory team with additional duties as directed by the Laboratory Operations Manager.\n We're looking for someone with:\nA degree in Science with a background in Phycology, Marine Biology, Aquatic Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Aquaculture, or a related discipline.\n1-3 years' experience in algal identification gained through either industry or academic settings.\nHands-on experience using microscopes for sample analysis and identification.\nA passion for environmental science, laboratory operations, and delivering high-quality scientific outcomes.\nDesirable:\nExperience working in a NATA-accredited laboratory environment.\nExperience performing microbiological analysis and testing.\nSkills & Attributes\nStrong attention to detail and analytical skills.\nAbility to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.\nExcellent organisational and time management skills.\nSelf-motivated, adaptable, and proactive.\nProfessional, accountable, and committed to quality outcomes.\nContinuous improvement and innovation mindset.\n WHY WORK FOR SGS?\nWorking at SGS means joining an innovative, Global company.
