Since 1954, we have delivered comprehensive engineering and environmental solutions for the most challenging infrastructure planning, design, permitting and construction conditions.\nWe are dedicated to improving our communities, preserving the environment and utilizing the most innovative science practices in all our work.\nJob Summary:\nThe field technicians in our Boise, Idaho office provide essential skills and we rely on them safely and accurately collect and organize data that is used in engineering projects and provide a basis for design for a variety of different infrastructure projects.\nResponsibilities:\nMaintain, repair, and clean relevant tools, equipment and supplies for project use. \nSecure tools, supplies and equipment from damage and theft. \nAlways maintain and promote a safe work environment. \nFollow instructions and procedures related to materials testing and measurements. \nAssist in the operation of specialized materials and field testing equipment relating to drilling, excavation, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data collection, among others. \nInteract and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels. \nFollow Shannon & Wilson’s Quality Assurance policy. \nFollow and promote Shannon and Wilson’s Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies. \nPerform other duties as assigned by your supervisor, potentially including laboratory testing and engineering analyses. \nRequirements\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent \n0 to 4 years of experience as a field and/or lab technician. \nProficient in mathematics, including Algebra. \nAbility to earn certifications in soils, and other technical certification opportunities, as appropriate for the position* \nAbility to accurately record field notes, and sketches to document work. \nWelding and mechanical skills and certifications are desirable. \nExcellent writing, organizational, and communication skills. \nPersonable, flexible, and professional demeanor. \nThe ability to work independently with the appropriate level of supervision. \nThe willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices. \nA valid driver license and insurable driving record. \nBasic computer skills: MS Word, Excel (required); MS Access (desirable); AutoCad (desirable). \nCritical thinking and analysis. \nFrequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds. \nWorking in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain. \nThe ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state. \nThe ability to swim preferred.\nThe ability to get a pass for access to military facilities. \n*Arrangements and payment for training will be made for the successful applicant after their hire date.\nLevel Placement\nTypically, depending on an applicant’s education, experience, overall abilities, alignment with the needs of the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, an Entry-Level Field Technician typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Technical Services I or II level.\nShannon & Wilson is committed to providing a comprehensive total rewards package that includes the following benefits:\nEmployee stock ownership \nMedical, prescription, vision, dental, long-term care and life insurance plans are offered to employees (and their families). \nPre-tax health and daycare FSA \nProfit sharing and 401(k) plans with annual safe-harbor contributions \n10 -
