Since 1954, we have delivered comprehensive engineering and environmental solutions for the most challenging infrastructure planning, design, permitting and construction conditions.\nWe are dedicated to improving our communities, preserving the environment and utilizing the most innovative science practices in all our work.\nResponsibilities:\nPerform field explorations, collect samples, construction observation, geologic reconnaissance, mapping, and preparing field reports.\nExperience with drilling techniques including: hollow stem auger, down-hole bucket auger, rotary coring.\nOrganize laboratory data, conduct limited soil index property laboratory testing, and report data.\nInteract and communicate with subcontractors, clients, and staff at all levels.\nAssist with business development and marketing activities, including preparation of cost proposals.\nFollow Shannon & Wilson’s Quality Assurance policy.\nFollow and promote Shannon & Wilson’s Health & Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures.\nPerform other duties as assigned by supervisor.\nRequirements\nBS Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology required; and MS or PhD degree in Geology or Engineering Geology preferred. \n7 to 14 years of experience as a Geologist, including soil sampling and some testing experience.\nLG Licensure.\nExperience analyzing LiDAR data, including for geomorphic/landform features. \nExperience with field reconnaissance mapping for civil projects, including landslides. \nGeologic interpretation and analysis using soil and rock samples retrieved from explorations. \nSubsurface exploration techniques including hollow-stem auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, rock coring, and test pit/trench logging. \nCollecting samples and logging exploratory excavations using standard soil and rock classification systems. \nOrganizing, contracting with, and directing subcontractors. \nPerforming soil index property laboratory testing a plus. \nConstruction observation and construction material testing of earthwork a plus. \nPile/shaft foundation construction and retaining wall structure construction observation a plus. \nExcellent writing, organizational, and communication skills. \nPersonable, flexible, and professional demeanor. \nThe ability to work independently with minimal supervision. \nThe willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices. \nA valid driver license and insurable driving record. \nBasic computer skills: MS Word, Excel (required); MS Access (desirable). \nCritical thinking and analysis. \nFrequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds. \nWorking in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain. \nThe ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state. \nThe ability to get a pass for access to military facilities. \nLevel Placement\nTypically, depending on an applicant’s education, experience, overall abilities, alignment with the needs of the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Mid-Level Geologist typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Senior Professional I, II, or III level with annual compensation ranging from $102,000 -
