Since 1954, we have delivered comprehensive engineering and environmental solutions for the most challenging infrastructure planning, design, permitting and construction conditions.\nWe are dedicated to improving our communities, preserving the environment and utilizing the most innovative science practices in all our work.\nJob Summary\nThe Lab Manager is responsible for performing laboratory testing and supervising the daily operations of the Lab.\nResponsibilities:\nPerform geotechnical soils laboratory testing, including gradations, swell, Atterberg limits, compaction, triaxial strength, consolidation, ring shear, and other advanced tests.\nMaintain laboratory accreditation, certifications, and calibrations.\nUse and maintain scientific testing equipment.\nProcess test data using computer software.\nCommunicate test progress and present test results.\nEnsure that laboratory testing practices comply with applicable standards and industry practices.\nSupervise and review the work of lab technicians.\nInteract and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.\nFollow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.\nFollow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies.\nPerform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.\nRequirements\nBS Civil Engineering or Geology degree preferred but not required for candidates with strong laboratory experience.\n5+ years of laboratory experience required.\nExperience supervising and reviewing the work of entry-level field and laboratory technicians.\nExperience completing laboratory testing required; geotechnical soils laboratory testing preferred.\nKnowledge of laboratory equipment, related supplies, computer hardware and software, and their applications.\nBasic computer skills: MS Word, Excel (required). \nAbility to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.\nExcellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.\nPersonable, flexible, and professional demeanor.\nCritical thinking and analysis.\nThe ability to work independently with the appropriate level of supervision.\nA valid driver license and insurable driving record.\nCertifications in soils, concrete, and asphalt testing, including WAQTC, ACI, NICET, and HAZWOPER preferred.\nGeotechnical field-testing experience preferred.\nField and construction observation experience preferred.\nExperience with gINT and/or BoreDM subsurface database software (desirable).\nFrequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds.\nLevel Placement\nTypically, depending on an applicant’s education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Mid-Level Lab Manager typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Technical Services IV or Senior level at an hourly rate of $40-$50 per hour.\nShannon & Wilson is committed to providing a comprehensive total rewards package that includes the following benefits:\nEmployee stock ownership \nMedical, prescription, vision, dental, long-term care and life insurance plans are offered to employees (and their families). \nPre-tax health and daycare FSA \nProfit sharing and 401(k) plans with annual safe-harbor contributions \n10 -
