This position serves as a technical resource to project managers, engineers, and junior technicians while ensuring testing activities comply with applicable standards, project specifications, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, asphalt and related construction materials; possesses multiple industry certifications; and can work independently with minimal supervision.\nResponsibilities\nPerform and oversee field and laboratory testing of construction materials including soils, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, grout, and related materials.\nPrepare accurate field reports, test results, observations, calculations, sketches, and photographic documentation.\nInterpret project specifications and testing requirements. \nIdentify non-conforming work and communicate findings to project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients.\nCoordinate testing schedules and priorities among multiple active projects. \nSupervise technician testing activities and provide technical guidance and mentoring to entry-level and mid-level technicians. \nAssist with technician training, development, and certification preparation. \nManage office accreditations related to field and materials testing.\nMaintain testing equipment, calibration records, and quality assurance documentation. \nFollow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy. \nFollow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Health & Safety and Loss Prevention procedures and policies. \nPerform additional duties as assigned by supervisor. \nRequirements\nHigh school diploma or equivalent; some college education preferred. \nMinimum of 10 years' of construction materials testing and inspection experience. \nExperience coordinating testing activities and mentoring technical staff.\nExperience working on CDOT projects, preferred. \nAccreditations in soils, concrete, and asphalt required (WAQTC, ACI, and CAPA certifications). \nAbility to work hours in excess of 40 per week and weekends as needed. \nAbility to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills. \nStrong attention to detail and accuracy. \nAbility to interact and communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels. \nPersonable, flexible, and professional demeanor. \nThe ability to work independently with minimal supervision. \nThe willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices. \nA valid driver license and insurable driving record. \nBasic computer skills: MS Word, Excel (required); MS Access (desirable). \nCritical thinking and analysis. \nFrequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 50+ pounds. \nWorking in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain. \nThe ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state. \nLevel Placement\nTypically, depending on an applicant’s education, experience, overall abilities, alignment with the needs of the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Senior-Level Materials Testing Technician typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Technical Services IV or Senior level with compensation ranging from $35.00 to $45.00 per hour.\nShannon & Wilson is committed to providing a comprehensive total rewards package that includes the following benefits:\nEmployee stock ownership \nMedical, prescription, vision, dental, long-term care and life insurance plans are offered to employees (and their families). \nPre-tax health and daycare FSA \nProfit sharing and 401(k) plans with annual safe-harbor contributions \n10 -
