We are seeking a dedicated Attendance Officer to join our Student Services team at Southampton College. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in promoting student attendance, punctuality, wellbeing, and success across the College.

This role is full time (37 hours per week) on a 40-week term-time contract.

As an Attendance Officer, you will monitor and support student attendance across the College, with a particular focus on students who may be vulnerable or at risk of disengagement. You will work closely with teaching staff, safeguarding teams, students, and parents/guardians to improve attendance and ensure appropriate support is in place.

Duties

  • Monitoring student attendance and punctuality using College systems.
  • Processing and recording student absences and notifying relevant staff.
  • Contacting students, parents, and guardians regarding attendance concerns.
  • Supporting teaching teams to follow up with persistent non-attendees.
  • Managing daily absence text communications and responding to related queries.
  • Producing attendance reports and highlighting concerns to relevant teams.
  • Maintaining accurate student records and updating attendance information in line with College policies.
  • Supporting student sign-out procedures and ensuring appropriate permissions are obtained.
  • Working collaboratively with safeguarding, wellbeing, and academic teams to support student engagement and achievement.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Communicates confidently and professionally with a range of stakeholders.
  • Can handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Has strong attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.
  • Is able to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
  • Has a commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Is passionate about supporting students and improving outcomes.

Previous experience within education, attendance monitoring, student services, customer service, or administration would be advantageous.
