Reporting to the Head of IT Infrastructure, you will play a key role in maintaining, securing, and developing our IT infrastructure while acting as the team's technical lead for cyber security.\nThis is an exciting opportunity for an IT professional with strong infrastructure and cyber security expertise to help drive a secure-by-design approach across a complex and evolving technology environment. You will work closely with colleagues across IT Operations, Infrastructure, and external partners to ensure our systems remain secure, resilient, accessible, and fit for the future.\nAbout the Role\nAs an Infrastructure Engineer (Cyber Security), you will provide specialist 2nd line infrastructure support across the Group's IT estate while taking ownership of cyber security monitoring, vulnerability management, technical assurance, security controls, and incident response.\nWorking within a collaborative team, you will contribute to the design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of infrastructure services whilst ensuring compliance with industry best practice, cyber security standards, and regulatory requirements.\nThe role requires a balance of hands-on technical delivery, strategic thinking, and stakeholder collaboration to support the Group's Secure, Accessible, Harmonious, Available, Robust and Adaptive (SAHARA) principles.\nWeoffer great benefits including;\nGenerous annual leave\nEnhanced employer pension contribution\nRegular training and development\nDuties\nCyber Security Leadership\nLead the development and continuous improvement of technical cyber security controls, standards, and procedures.\nAct as the technical lead for cyber security monitoring, vulnerability management, security hardening, and incident response.\nMonitor security alerts, threat intelligence and emerging cyber risks, coordinating appropriate responses.\nAnalyse security trends and vulnerabilities, recommending and implementing risk-based improvements.\nCoordinate remediation activities and provide technical assurance across the infrastructure estate.\nSupport security investigations, incident containment, recovery activities and post-incident reviews.\nEnsure compliance with GDPR, Cyber Essentials, ISO standards, and other relevant security frameworks.\nInfrastructure Development and Support\nDesign, implement and maintain secure infrastructure solutions using secure-by-design and least-privilege principles.\nProvide expert 2nd line support across servers, networks, cloud services, storage, and core infrastructure platforms.\nWork with internal stakeholders to identify technology requirements and deliver effective solutions.\nSupport business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.\nEnsure the availability, performance and resilience of critical IT services.\nWork closely with third-party suppliers to deliver secure and robust technology solutions.\nManage escalated technical issues in line with departmental service level agreements.\nContinuous Improvement\nContribute to the development and delivery of the Group's technical strategy.\nIdentify opportunities for service improvement, automation and innovation.\nEvaluate new and emerging technologies and make recommendations for implementation.\nProvide guidance, mentoring and knowledge-sharing across the wider IT team.\nSupport the development of IT Operations colleagues through training and technical expertise.\nWhat We Are Looking For\nWe are looking for a technically skilled and security-focused professional who has:\nEssential Experience\nExperience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments.\nHands-on experience with cyber security technologies, security monitoring and vulnerability management.\nStrong knowledge of Microsoft server and cloud technologies.\nExperience with network infrastructure, firewalls, switches and security controls.\nExperience responding to cyber security incidents and implementing remediation activities.\nUnderstanding of security frameworks and best practice.\nExperience working with third-party suppliers and external partners.\nExcellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.\nDesirable Experience\nExperience supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.\nKnowledge of Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001 or similar frameworks.\nExperience with endpoint security, SIEM platforms and security monitoring tools.\nRelevant professional certifications such as:\nCISSP,Security+,SC-200,SC-300,SC-100,AZ-104,Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect certifications\nAbout Us\nThe South Hampshire College Group (SHCG) is a dynamic, purpose driven Further Education organisation with a commitment to Creating Better Futures for learners, employers and communities within South Hampshire and beyond.\nWe pride ourselves on living our values - Collaborative, Inclusive and Aspirational.
