This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA, OSHA, and NFPA 70E, while building a culture of accountability, operational discipline, and incident prevention. In 2025 the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric, a subsidiary to Shimmick Construction. Axia offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our clients include municipalities, water districts, sanitation districts, transit agencies, private developers, DOTs, and USACE.\nResponsibilities\nThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:\nServe as the on-site safety representative supporting heavy civil and electrical operations.\nUnder limited supervision, responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements. \nMaintains current knowledge of specific government agency requirements. \nExhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty.\nVerify compliance with NFPA 70E requirements\nIndependently determines and develops approaches to solutions. \nDevelops, implements and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures. \nMonitors and prevents hazards and diseases in the work area.\nInvestigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace. \nRecommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards. \nDevelops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs. \nProvides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. \nMay act as a lead role for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel. \nMay administer an ES&H program on a small or medium-sized project.\nQualifications\nMinimum Requirements:\nBachelor’s Degree + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.\nMust be able to maintain 3 points of contact when climbing a ladder.\nMust have a valid driver's license.\nPreferred Qualifications:\n10+ years of relevant experience in heavy civil and electrical construction.\nExperience supporting substation, utilitiy infrastructure, high voltage, switching yards and electrical rooms.\nNFPA 70E Training Certificate\nOSHA 30, 500, 510 Certifications\nCompetent Person Certifications ie: Confined/Enclosed Space, Fall Protection, Trenching & Excavation.\nCHST Certification\nSTSC Certification\nAdditional Information:\nThis position is based in Southern California and requires a significant travel commitment, including overnight travel, as needed.\nQualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.\nThis position does not include sponsorship for a United States work authorization.\nThe salary range for this position is between $135,000-$160,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.\nShimmick's comprehensive benefits plan includes medical, dental and vision coverage; as well as options to participate in an FSA or HSA.
