We are the rebellious hero.\nSummary:\nShoals is seeking a highly motivated Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of innovative power distribution and electrical infrastructure products supporting next-generation data centers. This hands-on engineering role will be responsible for developing highly reliable, manufacturable, and scalable solutions that address the growing power demands of AI, cloud computing, and hyperscale data center applications.\nThe ideal candidate will possess strong product development experience, expertise in electrical and mechanical infrastructure design, and the ability to lead projects from concept through commercialization.\nQualifications\nResponsibilities:\nLead the design and development of data center power infrastructure products, including power distribution assemblies, busway systems, cable management solutions, and integrated electrical enclosures.\n\nDevelop innovative solutions that improve installation efficiency, reliability, safety, and scalability within data center environments.\n\nCreate and review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and product documentation using SolidWorks and PDM systems.\n\nConduct design calculations, tolerance analyses, thermal assessments, and structural evaluations to ensure product performance and compliance.\n\nCollaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, and Operations teams to deliver products on time and within budget.\n\nSupport customer specification reviews and technical discussions to develop tailored solutions for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center customers.\n\nCoordinate with compliance and certification teams to ensure designs meet UL, NEC, IEC, IEEE, and applicable industry standards.\n\nLead design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA activities, and Design Verification Testing (DVT).\n\nDrive value engineering initiatives focused on cost reduction, manufacturability, and operational efficiency.\n\nProvide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers.\n\nSupport prototype builds, product validation testing, and manufacturing launch activities.\n\nIdentify and resolve technical issues throughout the product development lifecycle.\n\nMonitor emerging data center technologies, market trends, and customer requirements to support future product innovation.\n\nRequirements:\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.\n\nMinimum of 8 years of product development and engineering design experience.\n\nProven experience designing power distribution, electrical infrastructure, industrial equipment, or mission-critical systems.\n\nAdvanced proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD platforms.\n\nStrong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and phase-gate product development processes.\n\nExperience creating and maintaining engineering documentation, drawings, and BOMs.\n\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\n\nAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with data center power infrastructure, busway systems, switchgear, PDUs, RPPs, or similar electrical equipment.\n\nExperience supporting hyperscale or colocation data center customers.\n\nKnowledge of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.\n\nFamiliarity with UL 891, UL 67, UL 1008, NEC, IEEE, and IEC standards.\n\nExperience performing FEA, thermal analysis, or simulation modeling.\n\nProject leadership experience and demonstrated ability to mentor engineering teams.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license preferred.\n\nSkills & Competencies:\nTechnical Leadership\n\nProduct Innovation\n\nCustomer Focus\n\nStrategic Problem Solving\n\nCollaboration & Teamwork\n\nContinuous Improvement\n\nDesign Excellence\n\nAttention to Detail\n\nResults Orientation\n\nShoals Technologies Group, LLC provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
