About This Role

SHOPLINE is looking for a talented Regional Privacy Counsel to support our rapidly growing business. As part of the newly formed global compliance team, you will be responsible for providing privacy and data-related advice across multiple jurisdictions affecting SHOPLINE's business. You must be curious, open-minded to a new business model, collaborative and persuasive, enabling you to provide proactive, practical, and straightforward legal advice in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that Shopline and our initiatives are legally compliant and sustainable from a privacy perspective. You will work directly with business teams, providing transactional support and day-to-day advice, supporting new and innovative programs and business models, resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries. You will also be involved in organizational restructuring, product design, and data structuring-related matters, with the support of external counsel where appropriate.

What you will be doing

1. Conduct legal research and formulate opinions on data privacy and cybersecurity matters from a global perspective and with a focus on GDPR, as well as Singapore PDPA, China PIPL, CCPA, and other data protection laws, regulations, and industry practices.

2. Advise teams across several data privacy and other relevant laws, including those related to marketing, privacy, consumer protection and maintain a regulatory monitoring log

3. Support the Data privacy of company by:

- Effectively contributing to their privacy program as required by each team

- Facilitate Privacy policy reviews and updates as needed

- Creating and maintaining knowledge management and template repository

- Assisting with PlAs, LIAs, and Privacy by Design assessments

4. Administrate privacy/DPO mailbox and resolving ad-hoc privacy queries

5. Support privacy projects such as data sharing initiatives, new regulation impact review, and implementation, incident management, data privacy impact assessments for new processing activities,

and others.

Who we are looking for

- LLB or JD from a reputable law school, LLM is a plus;

- 4 to 6 years of post-qualified experience, preferably with at least 1 year of in-house experience;

- Experience in and a strong passion for technology, big data, data governance and data privacy, preferably having experience in a tech company

- Excellent command of Mandarin and English (written and spoken).

- A data privacy qualification, CIPP or equivalent, or at least willing to obtain one shortly after joining the company

- Prefer practicality over theory, and be persuasive

- Experience with contract reviews and counseling Product, IT, Marketing and Design teams would constitute a plus

- Sound judgment and ability to analyze situations and information and able to continually monitoring and improving procedures.

- Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively in a multi-functional, international team environment;

- Excellent stakeholder management. Strong communication and writing skills.
