As an\nEngineer Associate Staff, Embedded Audio Software, you’ll help architect the software foundation that brings advanced audio algorithms and intelligent features to life in Shure products. You’ll tackle complex, performance-critical challenges on embedded platforms, shape scalable software architectures, and partner with DSP, ML, systems, and product teams to turn innovative ideas into reliable, production-ready audio experiences. In this highly technical role, you’ll also provide architectural leadership, mentor engineers, and influence how next-generation audio capabilities are developed across products and platforms.\nThis role is preferred to be hybrid based out of our Niles, IL HQ.\nResponsibilities\nLead embedded software architecture, development, optimization, and maintenance for real-time DSP and machine learning solutions, promoting scalable, reusable designs across products and platforms. \nLead software project planning and execution, including scope, effort estimates, risk management, and milestone delivery. \nPerform troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex software, embedded system, performance, and integration issues.\nMentor junior engineers in software architecture, design patterns, embedded systems, and engineering best practices. \nPartner with DSP and ML engineers to integrate audio algorithms and models into embedded processing pipelines; develop deployment, configuration, control, and monitoring infrastructure, and assist with inference optimization and model lifecycle strategies.\nCollaborate with research, data, and engineering enablement teams to develop tools, infrastructure, and workflows that accelerate development and validation.\nTranslate product requirements, customer needs, and system constraints into software architectures and implementation strategies with product teams.\nDevelop real-time embedded Linux application software on multi-core ARM platforms, including multi-threaded architectures, control logic, communication frameworks, and interfaces connecting DSP, ML, hardware, networking, and user-facing applications.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of professional experience.\n6 years of professional experience with a Master's degree.\n3 years of professional experience with a PhD. \nStrong C++ software development skills, including object-oriented design, software architecture, and development of scalable, maintainable software systems.\nExtensive experience with software architecture and system design for large-scale or complex embedded applications.\nStrong understanding of real-time embedded system constraints, memory usage, CPU utilization, synchronization, and meeting processing deadlines. \nExtensive experience with modern software engineering practices, including source control, automated testing, continuous integration, and code review processes.\nExperience developing software for Linux-based embedded platforms. \nExperience leading technical efforts, mentoring other engineers, and providing architectural direction. \nExperience developing and optimizing multi-threaded software on embedded Linux systems, including multi-core ARM platforms.\nExperience designing communication protocols, control frameworks, inter-process communication mechanisms, or distributed software systems.\nExperience building software tools, automation frameworks, validation infrastructure, or data-centric applications. \nFamiliarity with real-time audio processing pipelines and low-latency software architectures.\nExperience integrating DSP algorithms and machine learning models into embedded products. \nExperience with machine learning deployment technologies, model optimization, inference frameworks, or production ML systems.\nExperience with cloud-based development workflows, data infrastructure, or machine learning engineering practices. \nInterest, education, or experience in audio engineering, audio production, music technology, or professional audio systems. \nApplicants for this position must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Base salaries vary based on qualifications, geography, experience, and expertise in each respective discipline. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum base salary for the opportunity. The base salary for this position ranges from $129,700 to $207,600. This position may also be eligible for our incentive pay program, which varies based on individual and Company performance in the year. If your salary expectations do not align, still apply as we are often flexible on the seniority of posted positions.
