We’re seeking an experienced Power Systems Protection Engineer specializing in power transmission and distribution, substation automation and protection relay engineering, to join our Power Systems Engineering team at our headquarters in Wendell, NC.\nLocated in the heart of the Research Triangle about 20 minutes east of Raleigh, Wendell offers top-rated schools, a mild climate, easy access to mountains and coast, and a cost of living that allows our compensation to go further. We offer relocation assistance for eligible candidates.\nRole Description:\nDesign, configure and test automation and control systems for complex power systems and substations, ensuring high reliability and system integrity.\n\nExecute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) -skilled in preparing comprehensive test procedures, commissioning scripts, and leading successful project delivery.\n\nDevelop new applications using relevant communication protocols in the power automation industry such as IEC 61850, MODBUS, DNP3.\n\nDevelop and create control logic diagrams, network architectures, signal lists, and functional design documents for protection and control schemes.\n\nBe a proactive technical leader and collaborator, trusted to guide project teams, solve complex challenges, and drive results across all phases of the project lifecycle-from initial design to final commissioning.\n\nExperienced serving as the primary technical interface with clients, providing on-site support, troubleshooting, and commissioning expertise with a focus on performance and customer satisfaction.\n\nYou’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic/computer science engineering.\n\nFive (5) or more years of engineering experience in power automation for electrical substations.\n\nExperience leading technical projects.\n\nAbility to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for Medium and/or High Voltage substations systems.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of at least one of the automation products and associated software from vendors such as Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB\n\nCommunication Network Technologies, including Design and hardware configuration.\n\nExperience implementing communication protocols such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC60870-5-101/103/104, Profinet, Profibus, OPC, for power automation systems.\n\nSubstation Automation commissioning experience.\n\nFactory and Site testing experience in automation and control systems.\n\nWillingness and ability to travel 50 to 70%, depending on project assignments and requirements.\n\nLegally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without sponsorship now or in the future.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nApplied knowledge in communication networks, including design, configuration, and troubleshooting of layer 2 and layer 3 capable devices for protection and automation applications\n\nAdvanced knowledge in Siemens Power Automation products such as SICAM PAS, SICAM A8000, SICAM SCC.\n\nKnowledge in Siemens protection products such as SIPROTEC 5.\n\nExperience with Power Automation engineering tools such as SICAM Device Manager, SICAM Toolbox, SIMATIC WinCC\n\nAdvanced knowledge in Siemens Industry Automation products such as SIMATIC PLC, TIA Portal, WinCC Advanced/Professional/Unified.\n\nAdvanced Programming skills and experience with programming languages used in process and power automation such as C++, ST, LD, FBD, SFC, CFC.\n\nAbout Siemens:\nWe are a global technology company focused on industry, infrastructure, transport, and healthcare.
