Do you want to contribute your Python skills to the launch of a brand-new product? Here's the right internship opportunity for you!\nJoin our team, Autonomous Control and Operations, located in Princeton, NJ, for a 3 - 6 month internship and help us build a new Energy Flexibility Platform for Siemens. Our platform enables Siemens customers to participate in energy markets with their power generation and storage assets. As part of a small, interdisciplinary team of software engineers, power systems experts, and energy market specialists, you will develop and maintain the REST APIs at the heart of the platform, connecting data from a variety of sources to the algorithms that consume it. Working on a product in its early stages means your code ships to real customers, and you will see directly how a well-designed endpoint or a clean database migration translates into value for grid operators and asset owners.\nDuring this internship, you will experience the full engineering lifecycle of a modern cloud product: writing Python services with FastAPI and SQLAlchemy, extending automated tests, keeping OpenAPI specifications in step with the implementation, and shipping through containerized CI/CD pipelines to AWS.\nTransform the everyday with us!\nIn this role, you will work on-site in Princeton, NJ.\nOur team values clean, well-tested code and open technical discussion. You will be encouraged to ask questions, challenge designs, and bring your own ideas, and you will be supported by senior engineers who are invested in your growth. Our Princeton facility is recognized for providing a stimulating environment for highly talented and self-motivated students. An internship with Siemens is a great opportunity for students to gain real-world experience in a diverse, dynamic work environment at the intersection of software engineering and the future of energy.\nKey responsibilities:\nDevelop and maintain REST API endpoints for a cloud-based energy flexibility platform using Python\nIntegrate with third-party REST APIs, including authentication, retries, and error handling\nWrite and expand automated unit and integration tests to improve code quality and coverage\nKeep API specifications (OpenAPI) and technical documentation in sync with the implementation\nImplement database schema changes and migrations under the guidance of senior engineers\nTake part in code reviews and team discussions on design and implementation\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor's or master's degree student enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related program\nStrong Python fundamentals: writing functions and classes, consistent use of type hints, and exception handling\nExperience with relational databases and SQL, including schema design and writing queries\nUnderstanding of REST APIs, HTTP, and JSON, including status codes, headers and concurrency control (e.g. ETag / If-Match), and reading API specifications\nHands-on experience with software development best practices: version control (Git), unit testing, and technical documentation\nProficiency in English, both written and verbal\nLegally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience developing REST APIs with FastAPI (or Flask/Django), including schema validation with Pydantic and writing OpenAPI specifications\nExperience working with linters, formatters, and static type checking in an enforced setup (e.g. pylint, black, isort, mypy, pre-commit, SonarQube)\nBasic understanding of OAuth2 / OpenID Connect and JWT-based authentication and role-based authorization\nExperience with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, and Alembic database migrations\nExperience with time-series databases such as InfluxDB\nExperience with pytest (including mocking), Poetry, and API testing tools such as Postman\nExperience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP), especially AWS services such as RDS, Systems Manager Parameter Store, Secrets Manager, and SQS\nExposure to Docker, Kubernetes / Helm, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI)\nCoursework or interest in power systems and energy markets\nFlexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of experts\nA successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law.
