Start your career with the Strategic Student Program (SSP)
The Strategic Student Program is our formal internship program globally. You will be mentored by guides and gain invaluable professional experience. At Siemens, SSP interns get access to an international student network and community, career development opportunities with professional growth pathways, comprehensive practical training throughout the program, access to the Siemens Learning Hub and other training materials, and the opportunity to collaborate on exciting projects within a global, diverse team.
Topic: Topology-Constrained Curve Deformation Applied to Geometric Data Preparation for Mask Proximity Correction (MPC).
Position Overview
In the field of Electronic Design Automation (EDA), and more specifically Mask Proximity Correction (MPC), recent developments have led to the increased use of curvilinear geometries, moving away from the traditional use of Manhattan-style geometries.
Because these shapes require a much larger number of points when represented as polygons, the industry is increasingly relying on parametric curves for their description.
Biasing is a common geometric transformation used at multiple stages of data preparation. It can be either uniform or non-uniform. When applied to parametric curves, these transformations become significantly more complex and directly impact:
- Geometric accuracy
- Number of control points
- Overall data volume
The objective of this internship is to design and prototype different biasing approaches for closed parametric curves while satisfying constraints related to both accuracy and data size.
Key Responsibilities
The internship will be organized into three phases:
1. State-of-the-Art Research
- Review existing approaches
- Conduct a literature survey
- Identify and outline several potential solution paths
2. Prototype Development
- Implement the selected approaches
- Define their domains of applicability
- Select or generate suitable test datasets
- Define relevant quality and performance metrics
3. Evaluation and Analysis
- Compare the different prototypes developed
- Analyze advantages, limitations, and trade-offs
- Formalize the results in a final technical report
This 6-month internship is based in Grenoble (38) and starts from January 2027.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing higher education in engineering (BAC+5) in France, with focus on Computational Geometry, Algorithmics, Computer Science, or a related field:
- Strong software development skills expected at this academic level (eg. Python)
- Comfortable implementing and experimenting with algorithms
- Interest in geometric processing and computational geometry
- Fluent in both French and English, enabling effective team collaboration
- Strong experimental and analytical mindset and ability to rigorously design, measure, and compare solutions
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with mentors and team members
