Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).\nThe Electrical Engineer performs work involving the study, design, implementation, and project management of electrical power distribution, instrumentation, control, and data systems for construction projects.\n This position will be located in Las Cruces, NM at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility in the Facilities Department.\nEOE/Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran\nResponsibilities\nDesigns and develops electronic integrated circuits; control, data, and instrumentation hardware; subsystems; and systems for specialty process systems, aerospace hardware, and test rigs.\nIntegrates pressure, temperature, cryogenic temperature, flow, stress-strain, proximity, and level measurement devices into process systems and test hardware.\nDesigns electrical power distribution and motor control systems, including sizing, specifying, and procuring equipment.\nDesigns control systems for test facilities using programmable logic controllers (PLCs).\nSupports electrical voltage (>25KV - 24V), AC power overhead distribution systems, emergency power systems, motor control, fire protection, lightning protection, arc flash, grounding, security systems, and fire alarm systems.\nProvides technical direction to electronics technicians and electricians during the installation, checkout, calibration, troubleshooting, and operation of electrical, control, data, and instrumentation hardware and systems.\nDevelops and updates schematics, drawings, calibration documentation, technical procedures, and quality-control documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.\nPrepares purchase requisitions and hardware and software specifications for electronic and electrical equipment.\nEvaluates vendor proposals and provides technical recommendations for procurement.\nSupports large- and small-scale test operations, including the operation of control, instrumentation, and data systems.\nProvides support for training engineers and technicians.\nDevelop plans and requirements for upgrading and maintaining facility data acquisition systems and software.\nProvides support for special tasks involving detailed engineering analyses.\nDevelop presentations and participate in design reviews, safety reviews, and other technical presentations.\nIntegrates controls and instrumentation into PLC hardware and software.\nDesigns and specifies instrumentation and signal-conditioning equipment and integrates these systems with data acquisition systems.\nQualifications\nBachelor of Science degree or higher in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, or engineering technology from an ABET accredited university.\nMinimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience. \nExperience designing electrical power distribution systems; sizing, specifying, and procuring equipment; and developing control systems for test facilities using PLCs.\nExcellent technical writing, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment.\nPreferred Certification\nA Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New Mexico is preferred.
